Josh Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Lots of confusing information. Many different stories, the girl doesn't know what was consentual and what was not, police didn't file charges. Nobody knows at this point. I hate to persecute this kid without due process. What a mess. The only thing that sounds 100% in a court of law is that a minor had sexual relations with adults. That will be interesting to see the outcome. ALASKA HOOSIER, ThompsonHoosier and Hoosierfan2017 3 Quote

Hoosierfan2017 Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 I know I'm probably in the vast minority in my opinion, but message boards are meant for people's opinions, and I'll keep it respectful... If we did pull his scholarship I think it's bs and was done to avoid having to answer a few tough questions at a future press conference. Whatever happened that night it wasn't enough for the prosecutor's office to pursue charges. I understand that due process only applies to the legal system, but I hate that nowadays all it takes is allegations for kids' lives to be ruined. The deadspin article makes the situation seem like a complete mess. The girl doesn't know who she consented to, who she didn't, etc., and it sounds like Hafiz was gone before the majority of the actions took place. The deadspin report says that the girl "didn’t want to have oral sex with the player, but “felt compelled", but it never says that Hafiz did anything to force her into having sex.. If she's not resisting, telling him no, etc. it might be hard to know how she feels if she's going along with the situation. For all Hafiz knew this could have just been part of the recruiting visit. We can pretend that it doesn't happen, but I feel confident in saying that it's probably pretty common for many recruiting visits to involve partying and setting recruits up with chicks. Not saying it's right, but I think it happens fairly often. After this happened he said that the school was "****** up" and left. We can't hold him accountable for what happened once he left. We've had athletes do much worse things than what it sounds like he did and remain on their teams. ThompsonHoosier, HooHooHoo22, Josh and 1 other 4 Quote

Looks like our coach drew his, and I'm very comfortable with that decision. As for the police report and lack of charges, the deadspin article highlighted some seemingly important pieces of information that did not appear in the police report. Strange situation there... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app I think it's important to separate what Hafiz was involved with from what happened after he left. When it's all lumped together it sounds really bad and makes bringing him into our program look like a terrible decision. Sexual assault allegations get a lot of coverage in the media today and you don't want that attached to your program. To me, what our recruit did sounds more like a drunken hookup than a sexual assault. If CTA wants to draw the line there then I don't have a problem with it, but I think he would struggle to field a team if drunken hookups were his line in the sand. Hovadipo Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 I think the school has every right to pull the scholly. Sure, maybe he didn't cross some people's lines (which is fine), or didn't break the law, but he (allegedly) was in a sketchy situation with sketchy people on an official visit and it ended up being put out there for the public to see. Watch the company you keep, if you ask me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Stuhoo, ALASKA HOOSIER and HoosierAloha 3 Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners But can you punish a kid for the way someone says they "feel" if they didn't do anything to make them feel that way? Hafiz might not have had any idea how she was feeling if she internalizes it and doesn't say anything. What allegedly happened between Hafiz and the girl really doesn't sound much different from what happens in dorm rooms, apartments and frat houses on college campuses across the country every weekend. The situation was getting too sketchy for him and he got out of it. What happened after he left, as tragic as it allegedly was, wasn't on him. Josh 1 Quote

Dalton26 Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 If he felt the situation was sketchy why didn't he call the police or get help? That's one of my biggest questions. I'm back and forth with it. I can understand the consensual/nonconsensual argument on both sides. Morally I think it is wrong but I'm also not the ultimate judge. Two people can read a situation completely different, she may have felt trapped but by her going along with everything he could've thought she was into it. All I know is the outcome of that night is extremely fucked up. Hoosierfan2017 1 Quote

If his mentor jumps off a bridge does he follow? If he didn't understand the meaning of consensual before I hope he understands it moving forward. That goes for anyone that doesn't understand. Quote
