Ok, someone take me through the Arch Manning generational talent thing. Putting aside that this is a 1st start in a tough environment, what my fan-level eye sees is a kid with good size and a nice frame, quick feet and good movement, plus overall athleticism, good but not special arm strength, a compact but not lightning quick release, not naturally accurate and looks to be processing what he’s seeing pretty slowly. Yeah, he’ll get better on some of that with experience and maturity, but if his name is Arch Martin is he a thing?

Yes he would be -

noun

    1. The part of speech that is used to name a person, place, thing, quality, or action and can function as the subject or object of a verb, the object of a preposition, or an appositive.
    2. Any of the words belonging to this part of speech, such as neighbor, window, happiness, or negotiation.

You, Sir, are no help at all.

The word "generational" has been getting thrown around a lot since Andrew Luck.

Yeah, he’s hell and gone from a Luck for sure. That pick he just threw showed no anticipation at all. He had to see the break before he threw it and gave the safety time to get there.

Not hardly, just noticed he seems to be trying to mimic Cignetti’s approach from last season….they do seem much improved!

And people are already turning on the guy after one loss.

I’m not sure many people besides the ESPN/SEC numbnuts think he’s a generational talent. I heard one guy on Kanells show say Friday that he didn’t think Arch was the best QB in his class.

With that said…pedigree and athleticism matter. He’s a RS sophomore in his first start in probably the worst place you could be. He over thought things but looked better when the chips were down and he just played. His last play didn’t get the first down but taking on an unblocked defender and completing the throw with a guy hanging off him was a big time play. If he settles in and plays on instinct a little more he might still end up being a top QB this year.

What I took away from the game was Texas’s much touted and ultra expensive roster was just…ok. They didn’t look like they had anything on OSU. There’s probably a half dozen teams with equal talent.
