Is It Still To Early To Judge This Team As A Top Contender

Recommended Posts

I agree with the experts, can't judge this team realistically until we've played the top teams of the B1G. Beating up weaker teams doesn't do anything for me. Our matchups will be much different against Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, and Purdue.

just curious can u judge marylands team based on the teams they have beaten in the their 6 B1G wins? If u don't care about Maryland that's cool I was just curious

Simply put, yes.  The best team we've played in this stretch is Notre Dame.

Rutgers (6-14, 0-7)

Minnesota (6-14, 0-8)

Illinois (10-10, 2-5)

That's 3 B1G teams that downright suck.  And none of the others we've beaten are anything to write home about.

We're playing better, but the argument that we haven't played anyone is completely valid and shouldn't just be dismissed like it is.

Did Maryland stink it up in Maui? We are having to fight our way back into the conversation. Maryland never left.

So our season to you is defined but how we played in November? Can you not agree we are a completely new team?

Never ever said that. UPS seemed confused about why people are questioning us and not Maryland. We had a chance early and flopped they did not. Thus, no one is questioning them.

Now, for us I love that no one is giving us any love. This team needs to keep an edge about them. I love how we are playing and honestly think we are set up well for a deep run. Great outside shooters. Great PG play. TW is playing under control in areas he can flourish. We are not asking too much of TB. And finally we are playing defense like we care.

We have the talent. We are building confidence and hopefully we keep an edge.

so you are impressed with Maryland's wins against northwestern twice, Penn st, Rutgers, Ohio st and wisky with no rpi top 50 wins, at least iu has one of those (notre dame)

Not going to get in a pissing match about judging other teams wins, only care about IU's, move along, nothing to see here.

its Usps and Maryland did struggle early on in games the difference is they still won there games. Even if we would of beaten Unlv and wake forest ( combined 7pts loss it was clear there was problems with the team). Not confused at all just comparing 2 similar teams resumes and schedule in the big 10

I don't think Maryland is "tough" enough to win the BT. They have a lot of paper talent and I think that is why they started off ranked high. I would not at all be surprised to have them ranked lower than us by the end of the BT season.

Personally I love that we are not getting any respect. Right now the disrespect fuels better effort in practice and against all opponents. This team does better when the underdog than the favorite

It shouldn't be a pissing match.  Very valid question.  Maryland hasn't beaten anyone much better than Notre Dame.  They won at Wisky by 3 which isn't easy.  What makes Maryland so impressive?  By the perception of what we are downgrading our schedule, I would say the only team left worth a damn we have to play is Iowa.  MSU just lost 3 in a row.  PU hasn't been good.  Maryland hasn't beat anybody.  Its not like we get to go to Maryland.  I am trying to figure out what will be even impressive beyond Iowa.  If we go 16-2 and lose both games to Iowa, does that mean we are a 5 seed?  I mean, the B1G sucks.  Road wins really mean nothing.  When we beat anyone it really doesn't matter, because we didn't beat anyone good.  Please don't follow up with nice try sonny when you aren't sure of what to say, because you aren't sure who those teams have beat.  Maryland has beaten UConn at home, and Wisky on the road.  Those are their best wins.  Purdue has beaten Wisky on the road.  Florida at home which I wouldn't consider a "good" win this year.  MSU has been better this year beating Kansas early on, as well as Louisville.  They should be considered solid.  There, hopefully that helps you see which teams have actually beaten anyone.

I agree about Maryland.  I think it comes down to Iowa, us,  and MSU.  Maryland just hasn't impressed me.  I think they have huge upside, just remind me too much of our 12-13 team.  Never fully reaching potential.

Yeah Maryland didn't earn their way either.  They just started in the conversation with no real reason why.

They have great talent on paper.  I see why they were ranked early.  I just see them as a team when selection Sunday rolls around they will be a spot or two lower than what they felt they would be.  They will feel like they are getting a 2 and end up as a 4.

Really you think MSU still has a chance.  Even if they run the table not sure Iowa losing 4 games is likely.

For what it's worth, in my forty years of watching Big Ten basketball, this is the worst collection of teams I've ever seen, and it's not even close. There isn't one team that passes the eye test. Many years, there's at least one, possibly two or three that one can make an argument for; but not this year. Accordingly, I don't really care how good IU looks right now, or even how well they look down the stretch, it just doesn't say much. Let's save the hyperbole until this team, and particularly this coach, does something worthy of it. Until then, we're only sounding like Purdue or Illinois fans, thinking a championship is just around the corner, when everyone else knows better.
