Looking over CB projections is just depressing right now.

I really wish we could be an early domino versus picking up leftovers.

Recent CBs:

Tucker Syracuse

Richards UK

Barcello Arizona

MJ Walker Maryland

Samuels Xavier

Randolph UNC

I Washington Syracuse

Chaundee B. Kansas

I urge you all to realize CB's are BS right now. If you see a strong trend, okay...but three days after the final july eval period is complete BS. Kids haven't even scheduled officials, let alone, taken officials. And there are sooo many uncommitted kids that impact each other. Just don't stress on a July hot take

I realize this as we were Scruggs and Wilkes leaders just a month ago but nonetheless.

Would like to be an alpha.

Here's how I see it.

Thomas Bryant....... Bamba, Richards. Anything else is a loss.

Blackmon.....Diallo, Chaundee Brown, Duval, Waters, Scruggs

Hartman.....Wilkes, Tucker, Randolph, Smith

OG......if NBA..... Wilkes, Tucker, Randolph, Smith

Priller......Durham

Assuming we lose TB, Blackmon, Hartman, Priller and NOT OG.

I'd want: Bamba/Richards, Chaundree Brown/Scruggs, Wilkes/Tucker/Smith, and Durham.

Not realistic for us though I fear.

I mean, you listed off the top prospects. Most of them being five stars. It's not realistic that we're going to assemble a class of four top 25 prospects. I don't get why everyone gets so worried this early.

Yep. Teams that reload do. (4 players in top 100). Duke, UK, Kansas, and sometimes Arizona are getting almost exclusively 4/5 stars.

That hasn't been our results as of yet but it's not for lack of trying. Our staff is trying to create a class much like I described above. What it actually becomes is a different story. It'll likely still be a very solid class. We are in it with a ton of recruits.

I don't want to be "1 and done U". But when you project to lose TB, Blackmon, and maybe OG there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to fill those spots with like talent.

In the end, I want good chemistry and quality kids too. Credit to staff for doing great with this aspect.

We could also only lose one of those. If that happens we could be in a similar situation to Duke and puke but would all the players be happy?

Seems to me that Crean and Co. are spending A LOT of time on the top 20 players in the class. Most of which are also being recruited by Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and Michigan State. I don't have the faith that Crean can win these head-to-head recruiting battles. Wilkes and Scruggs are the two must-gets in my opinion, but Wilkes seems to be looking outside the state and just picked up an offer from UNC. I just have a bad feeling.

I think TB and JB are gone for sure. Plus Hartman. OG depends largely on his success. Priller grad transfer. If OG doesn't I wouldn't be shocked by a transfer.

4-5 man class. Need two studs IMO. A big one and a wing one ideally.

I'm not sold on OG leaving after next season. I thought at first he would be a four year player but now thinking more of three and degree. He will probably have the option to leave after this season but see him staying one more.

I do agree we need a wing that can have an immediate impact. Wilkes would be ideal and having him and OG at the 3-4 would be a good core to build around.

I can see TB gone after this season. If we get a wing scorer I'm not certain we need a dominate big (Bamba, Richards) as DD could probably hold the middle down with a solid 4* big.

I have no idea what JBJ will do. He might declare for the draft, might be a grad transfer, or might stay. Regardless I think we need a good to great guard because I see another guard leaving and we will definitely be without JN, RoJo, and JBJ the year after leaving a massive hole at the guard spot.

The Adidas Global Nations event starts today in California and runs through Monday.  OG and TB are part of the college counselor roster so hopefully they can do a little 'recruiting' for us.  IU targets participating include:  Bamba, Diallo, Duval, Herro, Langord and Weatherspoon.  Teams play 4 games and then move into a tournament finale.

Man, this would be a really good opportunity for TB to recruit Bamba as his replacement. That would be huge! OG could talked to some of the wings on development too.

It amazes me that some programs/coaches can land top classes year in and year out but struggle to do anything with the talent they bring in.  Washington under Romar, UCLA under Alford, NC State under Gottfried, Illinois under Groce, etc.  Washington has missed the postseason every year but Romar pulls 5* players, Groce hasn't really done anything at Illinois but he's building a good 2017 class and has had good recruits in the past, Gottfried had a few top 10 classes but failed to compete for the ACC title, UCLA has a few Sweet 16's under Alford but haven't done anything in a weak Pac 12 regular season.  It just baffles me they continue to roll in top recruits with nothing to show.

Sorry, to be clear, the scenario above isn't realistic for really any team except Duke and UK. Even Kansas and Arizona aren't assembling those kinds of recruiting classes. Personally, like Wayne said, I prefer the recruiting strategy of Crean. End up with a nice mix of vets and young talent.

Completely agree on both fronts. In order to compete year in and year out we need to have depth at all three groups with stud frosh and soph that are capable one/two and done.

My picks of the day.

That wouldn't be a terrible class as long as 2/3 of TB, JBJ, and OG stick around.

Gak - solid 4* top 100, backup DD at the 5

Smith - solid 4* top 100, rotation behind OG, JM, DD at the 3/4

Waters - solid 4* top 50, backup JN then takeover as a sophomore to run team

Durham - solid player that has chance to develop into rotation player buried behind JBJ, JN, RoJo, CuJo, Waters, and possibly Green. I don't see a lot of time his first few years.

Edit:  Those four players would give IU a 62.98 on the 247 class calculator which would be good for a top 3 class right now.  In past years... 2016 - 12th ranked class

2015 - 15th ranked class

2014 - 15th ranked class

2013 - 13th ranked class

2012 - 16th ranked class

Sooooo, with the core that we have returning that should be a class that fills needs in all three areas and makes the team better.
