Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 Final day recap of east regional -- Indiana Track & Field wrapped up its time at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Saturday night. Khayla Dawson and Leah Moran highlighted the day as they will represent the Cream and Crimson in two events at National Championships. After securing a spot in the shot put, Dawson became the first thrower to qualify for nationals in both the shot put and discus since 1992. Dawson earned her spot in the discus with a heave of 54.08m (177' 5"). Moran qualified in the long jump on Thursday and returned for the triple jump on Saturday. During her third attempt, she soared a distance of 13.19m (43' 3.25") to secure the ninth qualifying spot. On the track, Kelsey Harris was the lone Hoosier to qualify as she had the second fastest quarterfinal time in the 1500m. Harris clocked a personal best 4:11.75. The eight student-athletes who earned qualifying spots will next represent Indiana at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore. KEY MOMENTS • Mahogany Jenkins placed third in the high jump with a mark 1.80m (5' 10.75"). • JaiQuan Earls and Kynton Grays placed second and third respectively in the long jump. The Simmons-Harvey Invitational hosted by Michigan was highlighted by Nathan Stone who set a meet record and six individuals who won their events. Stone cleared a height of 5.43m (17' 9.75") to win the pole vault competition. Camden Marshall won his first event in the cream and crimson as he crossed the finish line in the 800m in a time of 1:51.60. Indiana completed the sweep of the event with Hannah Stoffel winning the women's race in a time of 2:10.10. Kenny Benton and Antonio Laidler picked up wins, Benton in the 400m and Laidler in the 60m. Kaylee Lane got the victory in the 400m with a time of 56.96 to complete the field of first place finishes. Last Time Out: Commodore Challenge The Indiana jumps squad traveled to Vanderbilt for the Commodore Challenge this weekend where they saw five top-3 finishes. JaiQuan Earls competed in the long jump and triple jump where he took second and third, respectively. He saw a mark of 7.17m (23' 6.25") in the long jump competition and 14.49m (47' 6.5") in the triple. Kynton Grays notched third in the long jump with a mark of 7.01m (23' 0"). Mahogany Jenkins had a second place and third place finish on the weekend, taking silver in the triple jump and bronze in the high jump. Her mark of 12.22m (40' 1.25") puts her tied for seventh on the program's all-time indoor list. Stamping the Record Book As the indoor season progresses, Hoosiers have made their mark on the record book in their respective events. This weekend, Indiana saw four marks make their way on to the all-time indoor list. Alyssa Robinson is now seventh after clocking a time of 7.46 in the 60m. Mahogany Jenkins leaped a mark of 12.22m (40' 1.25") at the Commodore Challenge and is now tied for seventh in school history. He is now in sole possession of the Big Ten record and has recorded the fastest time in the 60m so far this season. A native of the British Virgin Islands, 6.54 is the national record for the 60m which was also previously set by Brathwaite. He also went on to earn Big Ten weekly honors for the week of Dec. 12. Day one was highlighted by senior Ben Veatch's first career sub-4 mile. KEY MOMENTS • In the last event of the night on the oval, Ben Veatch laid down a time of 3:59.73 for the first sub-4 mile for the Hoosiers this season. He also picked up the win in the event. • The Hoosiers swept the top three spots in the men's 60m. Rikkoi Brathwaite led the way with a time of 6.56 and then was followed by Antonio Laidler (6.73) and Kenny Benton (6.81). Laidler's 6.73 was a personal best. • JaiQuan Earls rounded out the quartet in the 60m finals by placing eighth and garnering a time of 6.98. • Indiana also took the top three spots in the fast section of the 400m. Lauren Thomas picked up the victory in a time of 55.70 while Maria Anderson was second with a time of 55.93. Elizabeth Stanhope took bronze and captured a time of 58.17. • Ana Barrott won the fast section of the 3000m, posting a time of 9:42.19. • Taylor Jarosinski won her first collegiate event as she cleared a height of 3.70m (12' 1.5") in the pole vault. KEY MOMENTS • Shaton Vaughn, Micah Camble, and Kenny Benton kicked off the second day of competition with a sweep of the men's 600m. Vaughn won it in a personal best time of 1:20.45 while Camble came in second and saw a time of 1:20.59. Benton also saw a personal record of 1:21.08 as he finished in third. • The sweeps kept on coming as Hannah Stoffel, Kelly Mindak, and Maria Anderson finished as the top three in the 800m fast section. Stoffel picked up a time of 2:09.87 to lead the field while Mindak clocked a 2:11.25 for the runner-up spot. Maria Anderson placed third with a time of 2:11.54. • Morgan Snow won the 200m fast section in a time of 24.95. • The men's 4x800m consisting of Dustin Horter, Gabriel Sanchez, Keelan Grant, and Ben Miller combined for a time of 7:45.14 to take the victory. • Indiana saw a sweep of the 4x400m relay to conclude the track events on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers saw six event victories and six personal bests. KEY MOMENTS • For the second meet in a row, Indiana has four moving on to Saturday's final of the men's 60m. Antonio Laidler was the overall leader with a time of 6.75 while Kenny Benton had the second fastest time, clocking a 6.81. Rikkoi Brathwaite enters Saturday's final with the third best time at 6.83. JaiQuan Earls rounded out the quartet with an advancing time of 6.95. • Alyssa Robinson and Morgan Snow advanced to Saturday's final on the women's side. Robinson saw a time of 7.50 while Morgan Snow notched a personal best matching time of 7.63. • Maria Anderson and Elizabeth Stanhope captured first and second in the 600m. Anderson captured a time of 1:31.90 while Stanhope saw a time of 1:32.64. • The men's distance medley relay squad made their debut on Friday as they combined for a time of 9:33.69. Antonio Laidler picked up the win with a time of 6.85 while Kenny Benton landed in second with a time of 6.93. • Benton also went on to win the men's 400m and clocked a personal best of 47.12. KEY MOMENTS • Freshman Camden Marshall toed the line in the 800m where he captured first place with a personal record time of 1:49.16. This is the second time this season that Marshall has won the event. • The men's and women's 4x400m relay teams both saw season bests as they both took silver. Kaylee Lane, Morgan Snow, Maria Anderson, and Alyssa Robinson combined for a time of 3:41.25 which is seventh all-time in program history. Shaton Vaugh, Micah Camble, Parker Raymond, and Kenny Benton collected a time of 3:09.69 which marks the third best time in IU history. • Kelly Mindak saw her season best in the 800m as she clocked a time of 2:05.99 to capture the bronze medal. • Bailey Hertenstein picked up fourth in the 800m with a personal best of 2:06.74. Shynae Deas also saw a personal record in the event with a time of 2:11.16 which was good for fifth. • Rounding out top-5 finishes, Vaughn crossed fourth in the 400. He notched a time of 48.89. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Indiana Track & Field concluded its time at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday afternoon. KEY MOMENTS • Alyssa Robinson got the Hoosiers off to a good start when she was the overall winner of the women's 200m as she clocked a time of 23.92. • In the men's 200m, Antonio Laidler followed up Robinson's performance in the 200m with a personal best of 21.05 for another Indiana victory. • In the men's 800m, Camden Marshall collected a bronze medal finish and captured a time of 1:51.13. • Maria Anderson was the top Hoosier across the finish line in the 800m with a 21st place finish and a time of 2:09.64. • Lauren Thomas, Robinson, Anderson, and Morgan Snow combined for fifth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:45.39. • On the men's side of the 4x400m relay, Shaton Vaughn, Micah Camble, Parker Raymond, and Kenny Benton went 3:14.38 and took fourth place overall. NOTABLES • Morgan Snow collected a personal best and a top-10 finish in the 200m with a time of 24.39. • Shaton Vaughn collected a time of 53.73 in the 400m hurdles to finish in the top-10. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Hertenstein Selected as B1G Women’s Track Athlete of the Week BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Big Ten Conference announced their weekly track & field awards on Wednesday afternoon. Indiana Track & Field's Bailey Hertenstein was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Hertenstein is coming off a weekend at the Raleigh Relays where she competed in the 5000m. She was the fifth collegiate and seventh overall across the finish line as Hertenstein clocked a time of 15:49.94. Looking at the NCAA landscape, Hertenstein's time is fifth in the east region and fifth in the NCAA so far this season. She has the fastest 5000m in the Big Ten Conference in 2022. Hertenstein and the rest of the Hoosiers track & field team will be in action this weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
