IUTF Takes On NCAA Indoor National Championships in Fayetteville

 Indiana Track & Field will send five individuals and one relay to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend. The meet will be hosted in Fayetteville, Ark by the University of Arkansas and is scheduled to start on Friday, Mar.12 and wrap up on Saturday, Mar. 13.

Williams and Brathwaite will run the semifinal of their respective events on Friday afternoon with the top-8 moving on to Saturday's final.
 
Last Time Out: Big Ten Championships
At the first meet of the post season five individual championships were won on the men's side while the women saw 10-point scorers. The men finished in second while the women came in sixth as a team. Rikkoi Brathwaite (60m), Nathan Stone (pole vault), Ben Veatch (3000m & 5000m), and Cooper Williams (600m) all won gold.
 
At the conclusion of the championships, Teddy Browning and Kelly Mindak were honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship award.

Rikkoi Brathwaite and Cooper Williams put on a clinic in their respective events at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday. Brathwaite clocked a time of 6.55 to win the 60m and his time was the second fastest in the NCAA behind a sprinter from Oregon and ninth in the world so far this year, Williams' time of 1:17.37 on him gold at the championships and his prelim time of 1:16.58 was the No. 3 time in the world this year.

The Indiana men made their return to the USTFCCCA Top-25 after a strong runner-up finish at conference championships. The checked in at No. 21 ahead of NCAA Championships this week.

Three Podium On Friday At NCAA Indoor Championships

Three Hoosiers saw the podium at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon as Indiana Track & Field wrapped day one of the meet. 
 
Maddy Pollard kicked it off in the shot put with a heave of 16.99m (55' 9") to place seventh overall. She has now hit the podium in her last three championship appearances.
 
Ben Veatch broke the indoor school record in the 5000m with a time of 13:33.50. Veatch placed eighth in the event and made the podium. The previous school record was 13:37.03 which was set by Andrew Poore in 2011.
 
The men's DMR comprised of Teddy Browning, Shaton Vaughn, Cooper Williams, and Arjun Jha secured seventh with a time of 9:34.30. Their time was a season best for the Hoosiers.
 
Rikkoi Brathwaite didn't miss a beat after laying down the second fastest time in the semifinal in the 60m with a time of 6.55. He will race the final on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. ET.
 
Along with Brathwaite on Saturday, Nathan Stone will compete in the pole vault beginning 1:30 p.m. E. Live results of the meet can be found here and will air live on ESPN3.

Brathwaite Highlights Final Day at NCAA Indoor Championships

Indiana Track & Field wrapped up the final day of NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday afternoon. Rikkoi Brathwaite led the Hoosiers with a third place finish in the 60m.
 
Brathwaite clocked a time of 6.55 in the 60m semifinal to earn a spot in Saturday's final. During the final, Brathwaite went 6.56 to take home the bronze medal. This was the highest finish in a sprint event, that is still ran today, in program history. The highest finish previously was Kind Butler in the 200m in 2012.
 
Nathan Stone competed in the pole vault and placed ninth overall. The sophomore cleared a height of 5.40m (17' 8.5") in his first NCAA competition.
 
Brathwaite, Stone, and the rest of the Hoosiers squad will now shift to the outdoor season. The schedule will be announced at a later date.

Brathwaite Awarded Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year

The Big Ten Conference announced their Big Ten Indoor Track & Field season honors on Wednesday night. Rikkoi Brathwaite of Indiana Track & Field was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year.
 
The last Indiana athlete named Big Ten Athlete of the Year was Sydney Clute (outdoor) and Katherine Receveur (cross country) who earned this accolade in 2017. This is the first time since 2013 that the Hoosier men have seen someone honored as Big Ten Athlete of the Year. Derek Drouin was named the indoor and outdoor athlete of the year in 2013.
 
Brathwaite finished up his junior indoor season at NCAA Indoor Championships this past weekend where he picked up bronze in the 60m with a time of 6.56. He had the second-fastest semifinal time headed into the final. Brathwaite wrapped up his time at the championships by garnering first team All-American accolades.
 
At Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, Brathwaite ran a personal best 6.55 in the final and was Crowned champion of the 60m. His time was the ninth fastest in the world this year and tied the Big Ten All-Time record.
 
Heading into the postseason, Rikkoi hadn't seen any place other than first in the 60m. He had wins at Simmons-Harvey Invitational, Gladstein Invitational, Hoosier Hills, and the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Invitational.

2021 OUTDOOR SCHEDULE

Indiana Track & Field has announced the schedule of competition for the 2021 outdoor track & field season. The schedule includes five home meets and two neutral site tilts. The slate will be Big Ten conference only including the two neutral site competitions.  
 
Indiana opens the outdoor season on Mar. 26 and Mar. 27 at the first of five home meets. The Hoosiers will then travel to Jacksonville, Fla. where they will compete in a neutral site meet with the rest of the Big Ten programs on Friday, Apr. 2 and Saturday, Apr. 3. Meet number two in Bloomington will kick off on Apr. 9 and conclude on Apr. 10. Indiana will split up weekend four of the season as a group will travel to Prairie View, Texas for another neutral site Big Ten competition while the rest remain on campus and host the Big Ten Indiana Invitational number three.
 
Illinois is set to host the Big Ten Relays on Apr. 23 and Apr. 24 before the Hoosiers return home for the Billy Hayes Invitational on Apr. 30. The regular season will come to a close on May 8 when Indiana hosts its final home meet.
 
The 2021 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be contested in Champaign, Ill. at Illinois. The championships are set for Friday May 14 through Sunday May 16.
 
NCAA East Preliminaries are slated for Jacksonville, Fla. hosted by North Florida May 27 through May 29. The outdoor season wraps up with NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships June 9th through June 12th. Oregon will host its first collegiate championships at the newly renovated Hayward Field.

Indiana Track & Field completed the first day of the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 1 on Friday night.
 
Nathan Stone highlighted the night with a personal best mark of 5.45m (17' 10.5) which was good enough to tie for first. Brock Mammoser took bronze, clearing a mark of 5.15m (16' 10.75"). Anna Watson won the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.20m (13' 9.25").
 
Hope Purcell returned to the win column in the high jump with a clearance of 1.70m (5' 7"). Mahogany Jenkins picked up fourth with a mark of 1.66m (5' 5.25"). On the men's side, Jyles Etienne picked up the win and cleared a height of 1.99m (6' 6.25").
 
The Hoosiers will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 27 for the final day of the Big Ten Indiana Invite #1. Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. with the hammer throw.

 On a beautiful day at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex, Indiana Track & Field wrapped its first outdoor meet of the season. Five personal bests fell at the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 1 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Leah Moran returned for her final outdoor season where she saw two personal records drop on weekend one. The senior took gold in the long jump with a mark of 6.28m (20' 7.25") and the triple jump after soaring a distance of 13.25m (43' 5.75"). The mark b Moran is an improvement on her program record.
 
The men's long jump brought three personal records down for the Hoosiers. Treyton Harris took flight to win the event with a mark of 7.87m (25' 10"). Dom Day placed fifth after hitting a distance of 7.34m (24' 1") while Kynton Grays saw a mark of 7.14m.
 
JaiQuan Earls had an IU best of 7.41m (24' 3.75") in the long and placed fourth overall.
 
Making his Indiana outdoor debut, Nolan Landis locked down fifth place in the discus and secured a mark of 52.04m (170' 09").
 
On the track, Alyssa Robinson raced to second in the 400m and clocked a time of 55.43.
 
Shaton Vaughn tied for fourth by grabbing a time of 53.25 in the 400m hurdles.
 
Joely Pinkston put on the jets in the last 200m to rise to silver in the 1500m. Pinkston crossed in a time of 4:32.65.
 
Rounding out Indiana's time on the oval, Maria Anderson, Natalie Price, Morgan Snow, and Robinson combined for a time of 3:41.90 in the 4x400m relay and palced fourth. The team consisting of Mallory Mulzer, Shynae Deas, Pinkston, and Kelly Mindak finished in fifth and had a time of 3:52.53.
 
On the men's side, Vaughn, Zubin Muncherji, Parker Raymond, and Micah Camble ran a time of 3:11.97 to take home bronze.
 
The Hoosiers will next travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for the first Big Ten neutral site meet of the season. The meet is schedule for Friday, Apr. 2 and Saturday, Apr. 3.

Indiana Track & Field is headed down to the Sunshine State this weekend to compete at the first of two neutral site Big Ten meets. Competition will get started on Friday, Apr. 2 and finish on Saturday Apr. 3. The meet will take place on the campus of North Florida.

Due to weather, the meet will be moved to a one-day meet on Friday, Apr. 9. The first event is scheduled to commence at 3 p.m.

Bailey Hertenstein of Indiana Track & Field was tabbed for Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

The Big Ten Conference announced their weekly awards for track & field on Wednesday morning. Winning her first career weekly honor for outdoor track & field, Bailey Hertenstein of Indiana Track & Field was tabbed for Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
 
Hertenstein competed in the 5000m at the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 3 this past Friday night where she won the event and clocked a time of 15:38.01. Her time was a program and facility record along with a personal best. She now has the No. 4 time in the NCAA East region for the 5000m. Hertenstein also leads the Big Ten in the event.
 
The Indiana squad will return to action this weekend at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Relays. Action is slated to start on Friday, April 23 and wrap up on Saturday, April 24.

B1G Indiana Invite #4/Billy Hayes Invite

 It was a night of distance races for Indiana Track & Field where they competed across three events under the lights at the Robert C. Haugh Track Complex.
 
To highlight the Big Ten Indiana Invite No. 4/Billy Hayes Invite, Kyle Mau ran his first 5000m of the season where he won in a time of 13:48.01. Arjun Jha was the next Hoosier to cross the finish line and he placed fourth with a personal record time of 13:53.80. Ben Miller also took home a personal record with a time of 14:15.42 and finished in seventh overall. On the women's side, Sarah Schmitt crushed her previous personal best by capturing a time of 16:13.39. Schmitt placed fourth overall.
 
Rounding the competition for the Hoosiers, Jake Gebhardt picked up sixth in the steeplechase and notched a personal record time of 8:58.59.
 
The Hoosiers will be back in action on Saturday, May 1 to conclude the final meet of the regular season. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. while events on the oval are slated to start at 2:45 p.m.
