Pitching tonight wouldn't be 3 days rest it would be 2.

Damn it was just Thursday wasn't it.... Either way not feeling too great with Hendricks up there in this must win spot.

Even if the has a rain delay and gets pushed to Sunday we probably won't se Arrieta on 3 days rest. If so letting him pitch a CG was a really stupid call.

I think as fit as he is he could do it easily after his CG. 6 innings of 85% Arrieta is far greater than anyone not named Lester would give us.

Hope Garcia continues to pitch well. His change-up will be effective against a young and hyped up Cubs team.

I think they swing early on counts against him. We do strike out a lot but typically get into good hitters counts. If he gets ahead a lot it's game over.

I really thinking you are underestimating how different pitching on three days rest is

I am thinking I have seen it many times throughout my 33 years of life work as recently as the Astros play in game to worry as much as you. It's the playoffs. Every year we see pitchers go on 3 days and have plenty success. Surely you see that? Right? You don't think Arrieta at 85% is better then Hendricks?

How many of those pitchers threw over 100 pitches their previous games? Has Arrieta ever thrown on 3 days rest because that's a factor.

Basically the conclusion is very good starts and some very bad. My thing is as healthy as Arrieta is he has as good of a chance as anyone to throw 90 pitches on 3 days with success. As much as you feel I am underestimating this just a quick search will show you this has happened every single year since stats were collected. This is not as uncommon or taboo as you feel. If we had a quality 3? It wouldn't be a question, but we don't. We might as well run a bullpen day same as September.

I don't know. You are more than welcome to look that up. While you are at it look at arm slot. How healthy the individuals were. How many stressful situations they were truly under. Ask any pitchers and they would tell you that you could throw 80 highly stressful pitches and it feels like more than 110 low stress pitches. Those matter too you know.

I don't really see how the stress factor helps your cause.  Arrieta had alot of high stress pitches the other night.  In the later innings he had to work himself out of a few jams.

The fact is that historically speaking asking a guy to pitch on 3 days rest after throwing 100+ pitches doesn't work out well.  Especially if the game had been postponed allowing that.  The only way to get another start out of him would be mean pitching a second game in the row with 3 days rest.  Thats just asking to lose.  Might as well go for the surefire win in game 3

I think where we differ is the level of stress. I don't feel as though a 4-0 provides much. Only one time late in that game could they tie it with a swing of the bat. That's where I am coming from. I do think we disagree on overall philosophy of the situation but that's the biggest holdup.

No schwarber?

What's the deal with Soler, why hasn't he played more?

Schwarber hit .143 against lefties this year. Probably will come in as a pinch hitter in the late innings. As for Soler, he had an oblique issue and came back a couple weeks ago.

I've not paid much attention to the Cubs this year, thanks for the info.

I had to choose a team to follow since the Phils didn't give me much to work with. Schwarber got called up, so I jumped on the bandwagon.
