^^lol, I can't swing a stick without hitting an engineer in my city (Cummins engine headquarters is here).  I'm trying to think of ways to have electricity for emergency use (at a minimum).  Using a water turbine may be another way.  I've also been debating the pros and cons of setting up around a cave system.  It may be risky to defend, with so many passages, but if scouted properly, could be a good position.  Plus, climate would be a constant.  I love this thread, lol.

Well, its pretty easy to set up solar modules if you have them.  The normal module would be say 12 volt, 2.5 amps.  If you have 12 volt equipment to power just wire them in parallel for more amp output.  Series for more volts.  In the northern hemisphere you point them south, in the southern hemisphere point them north. (toward the equator wherever you are.)  The angle you want to have facing the equator is the latitude line degree which you are at.

Solar is a DC power source to charge batteries.  Gotta have batteries!  Again, wire the batteries in series and or parallel.  Yes, one could use an inverter to go AC.  A fuctional solar power system would really need to be "prepped" for.  You'd need aluminum frames and fasteners to mount the panels in an array as well.  Wouldn't hurt to have a shunt and voltage regulator for your battery bank.  Would really suck if you over charged the batteries and boiled them.....

Could be fun picking off Zombies listening to Sweet Home Alabama though................just sayin'

I feel like how the kids hear the adults in Charlie Brown.

I set up a nice little battery bank and actually hook up my batteries from the boat, RV and motorcycle for the winter. It is really easy to do. Anyone can make a solar array for your casa. If you get on Amazon and get a couple of panels, a solar charger regulator, some battery terminal connectors and an inverter, you are good to go!

of course, i don't know about the products that i just threw in the above posting. I just wanted to show you what they look like and what is out there. here are my recommendations and what i use:

solar regulator: http://www.amazon.com/Intelligent-Regulator-Controller-Lighting-Environment/dp/B013HK2OOE/ref=sr_1_37?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1443645962&sr=1-37&keywords=solar+generator

inverter: http://www.amazon.com/1800-Solar-Generator-Complete-Batteries/dp/B0044FVF6A/ref=sr_1_41?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1443646005&sr=1-41&keywords=solar+generator

right now, our power is off here in Alaska since we got hit with a massive snow storm. we have 11 inches of snow and counting. I'm living well with running basic items and charging phones. I only have 2 x 240 v panels and will get more as i get money. I have about 11x batteries running in parrallel.

Think anyone else will think of raiding the Tesla factory in Cali? I can get there in less than half a day and they have tons of solar products and massive battery production. Not to mention, cars that can get me around with low maintenance and can be refueled with a solar network. Plus, I live in a hydroelectric area with good access to the plants for direct access to power.

Actually, what am I saying? I'd rather just die. That sounds awful. I mean, like my choice is to live in constant fear while I watch my loved ones perish in gruesome ways or to die quickly and chill it up in Heaven? How is that even a choice?

My preparations for "The big one" involve simple generators and emergency food supplies. Since, that's a lot more likely to happen.

given the fact that zombies need to feed on live humans...most rural areas including most of Indiana will be relatively safe...

however; if you live in  highly populated, consolidated areas...well...then you are going to become a zombie.

Alaska? no worries whatsoever...life will go on as it always has.
