I know this is one everyone's mind and I hate to bring it up.

What do we know of Priller and April at this point?

One needs to go now and it sounds like between Mulder or Maker we need to lose the other.

This sucks because this is probably a dream for both of them.

Transfer or Walk-on?

You've got to think these guys know what they are getting into when they come to Indiana. For Priller, his other options were D-II schools. So if he were to leave for one of those, he wouldn't have to sit out. Not a bad deal to get to wear the candy-stripes for a year and try to make an impact. Really nothing to lose.

I really don't know anything about April. I know there's been talk that he wasn't a hard-worker in practice and that was keeping him off the floor this past year (there were some situations where I thought he would get minutes but didn't). His recruiting info from last offseason is scarce. I could see him going D-II also and not having to sit out. Again, not a bad deal.

Like it or not, Crean and Martin are working their butts off to upgrade the talent level being occupied by these two scholarships. April is definitely gone. Only way I see Priller hanging around for another year is if Crean recognizes that cutting his 2 to 3 worst players every year is bad for his reputation and the IU fanbase does not approve. Keeping Priller (who will never contribute in any meaningful capacity on the court) would give the Crean supporters something to point at and say, "See!! I told you Crean doesn't Crean players. He kept Priller around".

You can't do that.

Yes you can. He most likely wouldn't get a full scholarship. It would be like me getting a $3,000 scholarship per year and deciding to walk-on to the basketball team. He would just have to pay the rest via loans or his family.

We go around and around on this every year because people are delusional and think scholarship players are going to walk-on to open up a "14th scholarship". The fact of the matter is that if you are a scholarship athlete you cannot give up your scholarship, take an academic scholarship (give me one instance of this happening) and continue to compete on the same team.

Now, if you are on a basketball scholarship and quit the team you may be able to accept an academic scholarship but you can no longer compete for the team.

If Priller wanted to stay on the team after losing his basketball scholarship, he would be paying full out of state tuition. Unless his father is JR Smith, this is not happening.

Priller had a D1 option, Incarnate Word is a D1 program in the same conference as Stephen F. Austin.

I remembered Incarnate Word... didn't realize they were D1. Looks like they only have been for a couple years.

Maybe not long, not sure on that front. I do remember looking into it and being surprised they were D1.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that they are still within the 4 year transition period.

Seems like they are, but it is only affecting eligibility in the conference (and because of that, the NCAA) tournament. They played in the CIT this year.

I've lost track, how many need to go now that Yogi is coming back? If only one my guess would have to be April, but it seems that neither Priller or April have any desire to transfer or I am guessing they would have already.

Why would they? A free education at Indiana and a spot at the end of the bench on a team that is shaping up pretty nicely.

I expect someone to truly get creaned at this point. Anybody who had a chance to go elsewhere already has.
