Needs for 2015-2016

Pap, you are in the know. What about the Williams kid from Southport? Has he signed with anyone?

I am not sure if this is even possible, but would love to have a kid like that as a walk-on with the possibility of becoming a scholarship player his Junior or Senior year. Also couldn't hurt with Brunk and Scruggs.

Do u mean Malik Bennett?

Walk on would be nice. Numbers look good but doesn't always tell the story. Would have a ways to go to ever get a scholly.

I would defer to anyone who knows him or has seen him more than me. If not Malik than a player similar. I would prefer an Indiana kid with high Bball IQ. This would be our 3rd string emergency PG. Just thinking about injuries (knock on wood).

Only watched him during the regular season game against Evansville Reitz. He played well. Great defender, clutch free throws, very fast, and from what I saw an above average ball handler.

I saw him twice this year. Thought he looked really skilled and REALLY fast, but man he is little. Built well, but he can't be much taller than 5'8. I wouldn't be comfortable giving him a scholarship. I can't find any info on if/where he's playing next year.

I've heard he will likely end up JUCO next year. Vincennes is a good possibility.

odd post.

If Crean wins a national championship, IT WILL make ALL IU fans very happy. The "Crean Hate" comes from his underwhelming results over the course of his career, then that leads to personal windows of hate in which I don't participate.

I'm results driven and if Crean can get those results consistently I'll be VERY HAPPY to call Crean our coach.

It needs to be better than once every 3 or 4 years though.

Duke just won a NC with 4 Freshman playing major minutes. I really don't want to hear the youth excuse EVER again.

Agree with everything except the freshman stuff. Their 4 freshmen are all McDonalds All-Americans. I think being too young is a real thing and is reasonable to say about our teams the last couple of years. The problem I have is if Crean is saying that nearly every year, then when is he going to say "oh s***, I need to do something to fix this!" That's what irritates me about him saying that all the time.

Duke's freshmen scored 60 of their 68 points. NCAA record.

What WE need next year is for JBJ to play like grayson allen, that kid can ball.

Do you honestly think that he or any of our players will play like Duke players? Individually or collectively? We don't have coach K, Bo Ryan, Izzl, Calipari, etc. We have Tom Crean who has had one good team in 7 years here and that team couldn't play defense or take care of the ball or attack a zone.

Needs-

1) Defensive Cohesion- Our defense was disorganized and lacked communication all year. I think Bryant fixes this need by bringing the length and presence neccessary for our defense to tangiably improve while his attitude seems likely to energize our ability to communicate.

2) Consistency/Diversity- Our offense needs to find consistency- Specifically the ability to score from a variety of positions. We need to focus on finding multiple paths to the basket- 3pt Shooting, Slashing, Post-Play, P&R, High Screens, etc. Again, Bryant definetly helps open the offense a bit by providing an interior presence that the opposing teams won't be able to ignore and will hopefully open up outside shooting and slashing from our guards.

Thank you for pointing that out

This is a good post because it encapsulates so much.   First, I hear so often that Crean's a great recruiter.   Why then, do we have such roster turnover every year, and so many dead-weight players?   Why don't WE have 4 McDonald's All Americans on our roster?   Why don't WE get better late in every season like Duke does?  What does Duke have that we don't...except a great coach?

Second, I think anyone here would say "if Crean would show improvement as a coach, we'd be more firmly behind him."  I know I would.   Coach K gave an interview on Sunday which was validated by Jay Bilas and Jay Williams, in which he said he's a much better coach now than he was 20 years ago, and learns new things all the time.    Does anyone think Crean is a better coach now than he was even when he got here?   I don't.   I think he's stubborn and I don't think (back to the "great recruiter" comment) he recruits to any particular system or any particular type of kid.   I think he - to use golf par-lance - he hits it and hopes.

Crean irritates me for a few things, but these are two of them.   So many excuses, so few results.    I don't know how any reasonable person who truly understands Indiana Basketball could question why fans are frustrated with Tom Crean; and those who say it needs to be consistent are absolutely right.   Next season may be a great one.   Doesn't change the last 2 years or Crean's resume.   The expectation at Indiana is to be better more often than Virginia is.
