IU Hoosier41

Starting 5 as of Today

Recommended Posts

I see people listing 10 player lineups and frankly that just isn't going to happen. Maybe early on during the easier part of the schedule, but come B1G play it will likely only be 8 players getting serious minutes.

There's only 200 total minutes to go around. Yogi is going to play at least 32 minutes in nearly every game and James will at least get 25. That takes the total minutes down to 143ish. Then you have to imagine Troy and Thomas will get in the 25 range too. That leaves 93 minute after four players. It's just hard to spread minutes out and keep a whole lot of continuity in your team.

if the quickest always wins in a match up, I believe we should've had more success this year. Was Steve Alford the quickest? Was Dan Dakich quicker than Jordan? Do we play man often? Does he get help side D?

If he could be relied on for offense like Alford or play D like Dakich then it would be fine. Of course its not always the quickest that wins the matchup, but quickness and positioning is important.
Making comparisons to one of the greatest scorers in IU history and one of the better defenders to play here doesn't really make sense here

Crean normally works with a longer rotation. Last year towards the end he stuck with a group of 8, which is what you want, but it was also due more to necessity than anything. If he does go back to the 8 man rotation what does it look like? My guess is Yogi, JBJ, Rojo, Troy, Hanner, Bryant, Collin, and Holt. Although I hope Morgan can break into the rotation. He has a lot of potential.

Yogi, JBJ, RoJo, Troy, TB, Hartman, Zeisloft, HP, and Holt are the nine players who will be vying for the most minutes in my opinion.Injuries, summer progression, transfers, etc will shake things up, but those are the nine I see right now.

I realize this is a pretty bold statement, but I'm ready to move on from the Hanner Parea experiment. I think he can absolutely play and contribute, but I feel as if we were better off with Holt on the floor this year anyway. If Holt were just an inch taller, nobody would have a problem calling him a legit 4 at 6'8. I'm hoping he grows one inch this offseason.

I anticipate Bryant will already be equal to or better than Hanner in terms of production.

Thats why I would like:

Yogi

JBJ

Troy
Holt

Bryant

With Hanner in to spell Holt/Bryant as needed...

Also, I realize this won't happen, but I honestly feel RoJo deserves more PT than Blackmon

What about NZ? He could easily be big ten 6th man of the year next year with all the 3s he makes?

If we get thon, do we a transfer other than April and priller due to pt? Plus, Davis might be good enough to start for us.

Where are you getting the idea that DD is ready to start for us? We don't even know if he can play basketball anymore.

There was a video of D Davis doing drills in his old high school, and with the team in practice, but that's all I know. He looked pretty good for not having played basketball for a while.
And the video was posted back in March.
If Davis is ready to play ball, but won't get much playing time because of our depth in the pf and wing if thon comes, he might transfer

I keep reading all this Devin Davis hype from a few posters on here, like he's gonna come right back in and take Holt and Hanner's minutes.  We need to be realistic here, because his bonehead decision on November 1st has put him way behind everyone else on the team.  He's lucky to have come back as quickly as he has, but him getting heavy minutes, let alone Starting is laughable to me.

Crean just said two weeks ago that Devin is a very long ways away from even being able to participate in contact drills. Running through shooting drills is way different from actual contact drills and game action. Im afraid it will be pushing it for him to be back and contributing next year. Maybe midseason?

Don't get me wrong, I like NZ quite a bit and I expect him to get PT. But I also hope we move away from small ball a bit and at least towards the end of the year play a more traditional lineup. If we do that AND shorten the rotation I think NZ is the odd man out. He'll get some minutes but not many. In that scenario, that is.

Hanner was playing well once he was completely healthy last year. I still see him as a starter. IMO he could be the difference between a good IU team and a great one. Just needs more consistency.

I agree, I like Hanner as a starter with Holt and DD as his backup. Rebounding, shot blocking, interior defense. Also based on our roster makup, WE must play a G,G,F,F,C lineup to utilize our talent. We can go 3 guards for stretches though.

I doubt we do this but l I love the idea of

(1)Yogi----1)Rob
(1-2)JBJ-----2)Rob, NZ, maybe OG
(1-3)Troy-----3)Hartman, OG, Juwan, Rob, DD
(4-5)Hanner-----4)Holt, DD, Juwan, OG
(4-5)Bryant------5)Holt, DD, Juwan, April

I like this idea and hope we move towards a more traditional lineup. We can always go to speciality lineups if need be.

Rob first off the bench for a guard and Holt first off the bench for a big.

After seeing OG's athleticism I hope he's getting plenty of run towards the end of games in early season blowouts. The absolute last thing I want to see is a late season collapse.
