Hoosiers High Life

Not say crean is bad coach just questioning some of his choice

I was being sarcastic...probably wasn't sarcastic enough for it to come through :).

Crean's answer was ridiculous to that question, our defense is abysmal, why not try pressing?

we give up easy, uncontested layups in the half court. What difference does it make? At least maybe, we could force a turnover.

Watch Purdouche play without Octeus on the court. I watched PU fall apart against Minnesota when Octeus came out of the game. Minnesota pressed and PU didn't have another pg that could bring the ball up against pressure. They turned the ball over multiple times in a row. I have seen similar issues in other games.

Crean surely knew that PU didn't have a second pg option. I was screaming at the TV for us to pressure them when Octeus had to come out. Our best defense in that game was to prevent them from crossing half court. They were already scoring easily on drives and feeds into the post without pressing. It is unlikely we would have done worse with a press. Making them adjust to a press would have been a reasonable thing to do based on the games I have seen PU play.

I don't want to be a downer, but I have been wondering what the fallout would be if we loose one of the two remaining games to finish at 20-11 and then fail to win the B10 tournament opener which is quite possible. IU would most likely be an 11 or 12 seed if they get in the NCAA and would very likely be a quick one loss and out team. I think Glass would be under tremendous pressure. I know Doyel in the Indy Star would go after him to act.

The amazing thing is that it just makes sense for us to pressure teams. We have no post/interior defense, our half-court defense in general is abysmal, we're not good at forcing turnovers and our one distinguishing attribute is our athleticism. We're also a team that thrives and wants to play an up-tempo transition game.

So, when we get stuck in a half-court game, against a team that is abusing our half-court defense, how can we change the tempo into a more transition game, make the others teams offense uncomfortable and potentially generate some turnovers for our transition game?

Press!!!!!! Force the tempo!!!!! It just makes sense, especially in games like the Purdue games and the NW game. The fact that we haven't even tried it, except for end of the game situations when the game is already over, just says a lot.

I was wondering why Doyel has been kind of quiet lately calling for Crean's head.. Albers and Bozich both defend Crean to a fault. There act pretty unrealistic of the perception of the program outside of Indiana. Does anyone know why the Indiana Media is so nice to Tom? Are they waiting for how the season finishes?

Because IU will pull media credentials and Crean is pretty sensitive. Sure, you can get a little edgy if you work for the Star but not for ITH.

I know many of you do not like Dakich but he too is dumbfounded why we do not press. He also pointed out that our guys do not do a good job getting down in a defensive stance.

He even said he gets tired of fans calling out the coach after a loss but if we lose and we do not press he said he would not have a problem with fans complaining.
