How do you figure? If so, why are Indiana kids ending up at MSU, UM, OSU, UK, UL and others? And you mean to tell me that when IU had coaching vacancies that Kelvin Samscum and Crean were the first choices? That IU didn't reach out to other coaches and weren't turned down?

The "old days" ain't coming back. Doesn't mean there is no glories coming in the future but Branch McCracken and Bob Knight ain't walking thru that door anytime soon and comparing today to 20-30 years ago isn't fair.

Elite Indiana talent has always left the state and gone to different schools...

Buck specifically mentioned RMK's last 7 years, that's what I was referring to and it's true he finished top half of the conference every one of those seasons as tied for 6th was the worst in that time.

Looking in to it, 1984-1985 was a 53 team field.  The tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.  I said Bob Knight missed a 64 team field once at IU, and that was wrong, he never missed a 64 team field at IU.

Yeah I didn't see Bucks post. I grew up with Knight as the coach, but he wasn't perfect in his coaching.

Don't look now but Indiana is tied for 1st in the B1G.................

And our next opponent is tied for last! Lets keep it that way.

Never been a better opportunity to take down the mighty Spartans.

They look very ordinary compared to most seasons. :clapping:  Go Hoosiers! :clapping:

I agree to the overall sentiment of this thread. Im getting tired of "fans" who are rooting against the team or Crean. If you like the team, support them. If you don't like the coach or someone on the team, don't watch. Its that simple. I hate that on this board if you support the team you are somehow supportive of mediocrity. Thats not how it is at all. Me, for example, Ive watched this team since I was a kid. I watched and supported IU under Knight, under Davis, under Sampson, and now under Crean. I will support the team no matter what. Yes I want them to do their best and to win championships and I want them to return to that elite status. So I keep rooting for them and keep supporting them

But yes Ive heard lots of "fans" who are basically rooting against our squad and against Crean. Its tiring and annoying at this point. I understand people don't agree with some of the players or Crean. I don't necessarily agree with everything Crean does but it gets to point I just support the team cause its something I enjoy. If you don't enjoy watching the team then you should just go do something else with your life. No need to ruin it for others

Since I was the one who used the term.  I'll reply.

I grew up a Hoosier, graduated from IU, and even though I no longer live in Indiana, have raised my kids to be Hoosier fans.  I agree that people wanting IU to lose should go elsewhere.

I don't think supporting this team is supportive of mediocrity, supporting mediocrity is shown by saying IU's past is the past, just be happy with the present...  The present hasn't been that good.

I want Crean to be here for 40 years, because that means he has won and won consistently.  Unfortunately, I don't see that happening; so I believe it is time to make a change.

True and the next guy needs to embrace the local talent. Its no fluke that in 2002, early 90's and 87 when we won or were serious contenders for a title those rosters were loaded with Indiana kids.

Bob Knight still finished in the top half of the conference every season and made the tournament every year, he missed the 64 team field a total of once in his time at IU.

IU has struggled lately because of bad coaching hires.

JS, I truly understand your feelings on the matter. IU is a different program some
Times to a detriment. The NCAA needs to get their act together and keep things at an equal playing field. Kentucky is a FLAMING example of what is wrong with college basketball.

The 87 team only had two kids from Indiana
The 02 teams had only 4 kids from Indiana ( one being a walk on).
The 90s teams were a lot more of Indiana kids though

6 on the 2002 team and 3 on the 1987 ( and 3 from Cincinnati which I will count lol) and the 1993 team which was probably the most talented since the 1976 was darn near all Hoosiers but whose counting?

On the 2002 Team only Jefferies, Coverdale. Odle and Ryan Tapak were from Indiana, unless you are counting walk ons that weren't listed on the official roster. ( Thats 4)

I did miss the last one so they did have 3 on the 87 team but that still isn't a team "full" of Indiana kids like the original poster stated. Also you must have missed what I said about 90s team cause I already acknowledged that they were full of Indiana kids. But who's counting (or reading the posts haha)

I get your point, but those other schools have always gotten good players from Indiana:Scott Skyles, Zach Randolph, Kyle Macy.

For goodness sakes we were #1 in the country just 2 years ago and adding a good center would put us right there again for next season, and even if we don't we're in a heck of a lot better shape than we were in '08 before becoming #1 1 class later

That's sure what it felt like, but few of us really remember our '87 team.

How many points did you see Kreigh Smith score in his Indiana career? How about Jeff Oliphant? Maybe 100 between them?

Put those 2 guys along with Steve Alford on a team and that's the ONLY 3 players from Indiana on our last championship team.

3 total native Hoosiers on the team and 2 of them were Aprilesque and Prillerish.

All I know is I hate the Toiletmakers and Cal and his "Calites" from good 'ol KY and want to beat the socks off of these and many more!

I think I see improvement in "TEAM" ie. Yogi's quiet but effective night making plays with pretty passes leading to assists and Crean seems like he is getting into it more and seems anxious to lead his troops into battle.  While I don't think he is Gen. Patton itching to relieve Bastogne, we could give everyone a "good fight" if we keep up this pace of growing-players AND coaches.

    Spot on about Yogi.

I think that may have been one of his best games as our floor general. We need someone who values possessions and looks to distribute rather than the razzle dazzle and score we get from him sometimes.

When he plays as he did last night we become a much harder team to guard. I hope this is an indicator of things to come and not a fluke.

Maybe CTC is in his A#$. Should have been a long time ago.     Go CTC!

If he ever wants to play in the league he'll have to gravitate towards that part of his game.

Give me Kreigh Smith in  his shorty shorts ANY DAY over Priller! Yea, you heard that right!
