Never Daunted

The nation's perspective on IUBB

This! They went thru a stretch with the wrong coach and found the right one who had already won a championship. Billy D, come on down.

Not that I think it'd happen, but imagine the headlines that would make.  Hoosier Nation would be dancing in the streets, and our rivals would be hanging their heads and looking for new pants.

It would be glorious.

IF Crean doesn't get it turned around this year-----I agree with you schoosier! (Never thought I would say that---just kidding)----This is the kind of homerun hire I could get behind.  The Administration has to quit gambling with the future of IU BBall and get it right this time.

The difference is I still think Crean can get it done---but the heat is rising from a simmer to a full boil!

I won't accept another subpar season either---2 in a row is not IU standards.

If we had different leadership it could happen. Unfortunately, our's is still leading the Crean bandwagon. Its one thing to say I support the coach and another to say he's not part of the problem. Hello! The problem starts with the AD.

If Crean doesn't get it done---Izzo would also be a homerun hire in my book---not sure he would do that to Crean due to loyality--- but he does it all the time in recruiting!

The difference for me is I still think Crean can get it turned around. Remember all those blow outs that happened to Knight teams---especially young ones---- early in the season only to see them turn it around and contend for championships and make deep tourney runs by the end of the year.  Hoping for a similar turnaround on D for IU this year. That may be wishful thinking but I have seen it several times over the years and I believe we have the athletic and basketball talent to make that kind of turnaround. I EXPECT that kind of turnaround and that is on Coach.

Why don't we think like Nebraska? They didn't say "we haven't been at the top in a while, we might not be able to do any better" or "well we could do worse", they said "we expect more, he's not cutting it".

That's just it, I have zero faith that Crean will improve this team any throughout the season. He hasn't shown that ability while here.

I think the problem with that illustration is Crean isn't Knight. By a long shot!
I think Knight had his flaws but as a coach he and Crean aren't in the same league!
That's nothing to be too ashamed of.
When it comes strictly to coaching not to many were/are in Knights league.

Reb, I admire you staying with the positive mindset. I say that that cause Crean is the king of set in any form whether its skillset, mindset, summerset, or you name it. One thing you're forgetting with the blowouts with knights teams is championsets. Yep a new word. One our current coach can't speak so freely. Could you imagine Knight cutting down the nets after losing at home? Could you imagine any coach doing that? Me either. Our current coach says it all, but he really doesn't get it. Plus he doesn't coach it. All of your hoping and wishing for the big turnaround isn't going to happen; you have to have the coachset. And we don't have it.

Agree jonz44---I was using that as an illustration.

Not many have been or ever will be in Knight's league---but it is possible and it has been done and this team has the talent and athleticism to do it----we shall see.

As Billy Joel sang---You May Be Right..... And I May Be Crazy!

But we will all know whether Crean can get it done soon enough---if he can't--he gone.  If he can--he stays awhile longer.  He's earned the right with me---2 good seasons since the rebuild and one subpar---this year can't be subpar.  I still predict JBJ, Yogi and the guards lead us to a better than expected season.  I expect it---but we shall soon see if it happens.

Oh, though more generally, we're a huge laughing stock. Not just among rival's fans, but things like "I've been thinking about you" were all over when Snapchat was allowed for recruiting purposes. That Crean shocked face. Cutting down the nets. Sweet Sixteen rings. I get tons of crap from people for that stuff across the internet and in-person. We haven't played well enough recently to get away with that kind of crap.

the sweet sixteen rings and cutting down the nets after losing (although i enjoyed it)

Michigan football without a doubt. Hoke made a bus bowl his first year and the people found out he couldn't coach. He can recruit and says the right things. Perfect face for a program but he cant coach. Lots of parallels with crean and the iu program. Lloyd Carr to rich rod to hoke is similar to knight to davis to Sampson to crean. Both programs are dumpater fires currently for a variety of on and off the field problems.

I like in Michigan now (for work) and I'm considering doing my MBA in Ann Arbor... I think this is a really solid comparison. Traditional blue blood powerhouse that's at a very low point, largely in part to an inferior/overrated coaching staff
