So why couldn't they send Louisville to the first 4 but 16 seeds who win their conference tourneys get sent?

IMO, the first 4 should be the 11 and 12 seeds only and the last 8 at larges only. Just my opinion though.

I guess technically they could send them as one io the last seeded  teams   but if they won 5 straight ACC games then there would be no chance on the true seed list they would be that far down.    First 4 is the last 4 teams on the seed list 65-68 and the last 4 at-large teams

Hot take:  teams that are 16 seeds that get the play in game actually don't mind it.  Unless something very strange happens (think it's happened only once), 16 seeds aren't going to win a game UNLESS they are in the play in game.  Get in the play in game as a 16 seed and you're the only college game on at the time.

Agree on the first 4 being the last 8 at-large teams but you know who doesn’t want that.   The commissioners and athletic directors and coaches of the smaller conferences that get sent to the first 4.    The winner goes in the history books as a win in the ncaa tournament for that school and that’s a unit for the conference and schools.  More  Money for the conferences that would otherwise get destroyed by a 1 seed.  Plus for me my wife and I enjoy those 16 seeded games at the first 4 when we go.  Always fun getting caught up in the atmosphere between 2 small teams and fan bases in their Super Bowl

I just looked at NET and there are several conferences that don't have a single Quad 1 win where Uof6 would hypothetically have added 3.

Sorry to quote you again. The NCAA should really add a second site for the first four games that get sent out west. Keep Dayton for the east/midwest regions and have another similar school/arena in Texas for the south/west. Still bitter about IU winning in Dayton then going 2,000 miles west for a game that tipped right after they landed.

One thing I always wondered was when Georgetown won the 2020-21 Big East tournament, they were seeded at 12, which put them below all the at large bids but on the top line with the auto bids.  But it did seem to me that there were a couple of 13 seeded auto bids that had better resumes (Liberty, North Texas).  Kind of wondered if the NCAA committee basically slotted that 12 seed spot for an at large team OR Georgetown if Georgetown won.  I know you've said they really don't look at Saturday/Sunday games, so I wonder if a power 5 conference champion is one that potentially wouldn't have been invited if they just seed them where the last at large team would be just in case they do win their tournament.  It might keep them from needing to shift other things.

I wouldn’t like that since I go to Dayton every year to watch the First 4 but it definitely would make a lot of sense to do that

15-0 run for UNCW and they are up 7.   Charleston is in trouble.  9:26 to go

IF Charleston loses.....are they at large worthy?  I know no team with 29 wins over D1 competition has ever been excluded but I also know their schedule.....oof.

I wouldn’t count on it but you never know.   0 Q1 wins and a SOS of 335 and non con 301.   27 wins over NET 100.   I don’t see it happening

I would agree.  I hadn't had a chance to see them play until the last two games and sight unseen, I would have said that isn't a team that I would have wanted IU to open up with because I'm typically leary of smalls that win a lot of games.  But they really haven't been impressive at all in the two games I've seen.  Tie game and they may win tonight, but they aren't Florida Atlantic.  Not Oral Roberts IMO either.

Merrimack comes back and wins it.  Won the regular season and tourney and doesn’t get to go dancing.    Dumb rule.

If they didn't want them to be eligible for the NCAA tourney, don't put them in the conference tournament.
