Tom Crean's Quotes from 2008 Introduction Presser

Recommended Posts

good post, but lets not say we're being embarrassed by the university.  the university and many other programs in this athletic department are doing a lot of good.  a lot of excellent.  it's the iubb program that needs to get its act together.  and yes, it has been embarrassing.

I'm definitely fed up, and it's not even about bad losses like last season's northwestern and penn state.  it's poor representation and conduct, bad press, lowered standards and lack of leadership.  it's the undeniable fact of how far we've deviated from what this program was.  it's about these players not fully realizing what they're a part of and who and what they're playing for.  a substantial part of that speaks to the staff not exerting the appropriate level of discipline.  I look back at my little rant in the initial dd/holt thread and don't take back anything.  hell, I'd add further concerns to it.

many will hate reading this, but I'd like to see us follow wisconsin's lead.  not with the slower pace of offense or bo's stupid grinch face, but the disciplined, fundamental and leave-it-all-on-the-floor play apparent in their games.  they mix skill with class and maturity and either overwhelm or wear down their opponents.  the badgers are great reps of the big ten and resemble the vintage indiana program much more than we do right now.  man do I hate admitting that.  tastes like vinegar-coated crap.

we all know boosters and much of hoosiernation are clamoring for a head coach replacement.  if we're not in it till the end for a conference championship and/or win a couple games in the ncaa tournament this year, crean's gone.  wholeheartedly believe that, and I don't disagree with it anymore.  we need a change up top, somebody who can right the ship.  it's a performance- and pr-based job, and his teams aren't consistently excelling on or off the court.

I still want a answer for why hanner got only two games for dui while we had a kid sit the bench for like six games for no reason other than to refocus which is crap. If he needed to refocus one game is enough and if that dont work there isnt much hope.

For the record, my post is not a FIRE COACH CREAN post.   I don't think he needs to fired for all of this, I think he needs to look in the mirror and turn the clock back to 2008 when he was making the right decisions.   I'm not judging him from his on the court success or failures.  I'm judging him from the overall culture of Indiana Basketball right now.

There was more to the 6 games than focus...

The slump years were probably the best thing to happen to Crean. He got recruits who wanted to play here and saw how down the program was. They scrapped and rebuilt from the ashes. Genuine good kids who wanted to work towards a common goal. Now it seems like players are entitled, selfish, and apathetic. Whether or not that's on Crean, you can be the judge. But I am extremely disappointed to hear the things said about Yogi by Dakich and posters on here. Most of all, I'm disappointed that I spend so much money and devote so much time to something the players don't really seem to care about. The games matter. This program matters. Act like it

I agree it was different during the rebuild and the kids were fun to root for plus I felt after the game's crean held kids accountable more than it seems he does now like he is scared to upset them. I wish he would get back to basics we havent accomplished anything yet. I think cutting the nets after losing at home was a joke that gives kids the wrong idea as far as I am concerned. I was wondering if anybody feels that his cheer leading style of coaching could negatively effect his in game decisions like while he is running and clapping he is missing important things in game that could effect his subs and changes he should make? Just a thought

No. Crean isn't a great Xs and Os coach but to say he misses things in games because he claps is absolutely ludicrous. Come on man. Seriously?

I think as fans we also need to remember that we have many kids on this team who aren't doing anything but work hard. I hate to see the entire team painted with a broad brush.

I'd love to agree with you on this.   Unfortunately I can't do that.  I will say that our team is VERY close with one another, many hang out with each other all the time.  Guilty by association, maybe.... But judging from how much they all hang out, I doubt it's an isolated incident... (hard to be isolated when you could field a starting lineup exclusively with players with criminal records...)

I completly hear and understand your point, but if those good kids don't like the way they're being portrayed or lumped in as their team is being portrayed, then grab your teammates that aren't following the rules by the neck and rip them a new one. It's not on the media/fans, it's on the players.
