WAY too early 2016 wish list inspired by HH

Recommended Posts

I didn't include certain players where there does not appear to be mutual interest lately (Battle, Coffey, King, etc)

1. Thon Maker (although I wholeheartedly think he ends up a 15)

2. TJ Leaf

3. Rawle Alkins

4. DeRon Davis

5. Braxton Blackwell

6. Miles Bridges

7. Eron Gordon

8. Payton Pritchard (not much action here lately)

9. Curtis Jones

10. Lamar Stevens

11. Quentin Goodin

12. Joey Brunk
13. Eli Wright

14. Barrett Benson

15. Vijay Blackmon

Excluding Maker who I think Reclasses my ideal 4 man class is TJ Leaf, Rawle, BBlackwell, DeRon Davis.

3 man class: Leaf, Rawle, DeRon Davis

If we take 2 guards, Rawle and Gordon.

ALL Indiana class- Brunk, Gordon, Blackmon

Miles Bridges a good "back up" for Braxton Blackwell and

Curtis Jones could be a good "back up" for EronG.

I don't think Maker ends up reclassifying. I think if he was going to reclassify, he would've done it already. I know he technically still can but Ed Smith said last summer that it would take too much school work to get him reclassified now

I think a 2016 class of Atkins and DeRon Davis will most likely happen. If ( a big IF) TJ Leaf decides to come here that would be an amazing class.

I'm a big advocator for us to stay in state recruiting. No reason to go 4 states away to grab a kid when we have some of the best grown in our backyards. That's why I ask

Well right now for 2016 IU has strong ties with players from out of state that are better than any in state player.

Sean Miller is absolutely on fire on the recruiting trail. He has something like 1 3* recruit since 2011 and every other one has been 4 or 5* (for those that will chime in, yes I understand that rankings aren't everything). I think he's had at least two 5*'s in every class since then too.

FWIW
Alex Bozich recently CB'd Leaf to Arizona.
We also recently got CB picks for Eron Gordon (Jack Legwin) and JaQuan Lyle (Messmer)

Leaf's dad wants him to come here, but Leaf doesn't... I've got a feeling we will be glad he goes elsewhere. I would MUCH rather have DeRon Davis. Leaf seems like Duke to me. Soft.

I don't think Leaf is soft. He is listed as a PF but he is definitely a wing player. Deron Davis is a true PF so I would rather have him. Of course I wouldn't turn down leaf, but I don't see him coming here

Are we sure about Leafs dad wanting him to come here? I read his comments when we first started recruiting his son and understand he greatly appreciates who we are and our history but is there something newer that suggests his dad prefers Indiana now?

They're gone for a lot of teams. The game has changed to where it isn't absolutely necessary to have a true center. Some NBA teams don't even have that prototypical center anymore.

Yeah but at the same time the rest of the teams in the B1G have huge guys. We don't have that guy to match up with a Kaminsky or another big center in conference play. I'm not worried about facing teams outside of the conference, but I do worry about getting beaten down low during conference.

That's a legitimate worry, but I'm usually more worried about physicality with bigs personally. I think Hammons could give us a ton of problems because of his height and weight/power. Kaminsky is going to give everyone issues because that guy can just play. But I think Hanner, Devin, and Emmitt are athletic enough to sufficiently guard against most bigs we will see. There will be some bigs that give our guys problems, but hopefully we can counter with our guards.

We have sure had our share of injury problems with our 7 footers and I have noticed other teams have too.

I am about to the point of saying Crean is on the right track of going with some quick 6'8 to 6'9 guys with long wingspans who can jump and play inside ----and not worry so much about that true center.

We can win with quickness inside and 3 point shooting outside.
