finally someone agrees with me, dont get me wrong i dont want to be johnny raincloud and just talk down and have no hope, but i feel like when a kid is athletic folks automatically assume they are nba bound.

I have a feeling hes gonna be our star this year IF he has developed his shot and worked on D.

if he is our star consider him gone. I don't think that will happen though as Yogi is likely our star, followed by JBJ. Neither of them have the upside that Troy does by they are likely ahead of him right now in terms of being dominate in college

That's because a kid with really good athleticism and good size for his position has a ton of potential whether they can shoot and dribble or not. The draft is almost entirely on potential, so it's pretty easy to tell when a guy is gonna have a good shot at going pro.

WEll the thing is that guys with Troy's height/weight/athleticism are honestly a dime a dozen. There are a ton of guys like him in the NBA heck even people in the pros in other countries that couldn't make it in the NBA. You have to be able to play D and have a decent shot. There are a long list of athletic "freak" who can jump out of the gym and dunk like nobodies business but can't make a team in the league cause they lack all other skills. Not putting Troy down at all. I think he makes an Oladipo type jump either this year or next, but as of right now, he's still a ways away

I would actually disagree with the idea that there are a ton of athletic freaks overseas, bc there's actually a ton of guys who are really skilled but cannot stay in the NBA or even get there bc they aren't athletic enough.
Take Hulls and Watford for example. Compare them to guys like Archie Goodwin and DJ Stephens from Memphis. Hulls and Watford are way more skilled than either of those 2, were better college players, and are still more skilled to this day, but they don't have anywhere close to the athleticism. Hulls is overseas and Watford is currently on a non-guaranteed contract with a likely possibility of being cut, while Goodwin and Stephens are on rosters.
It obviously helps the cause if you are really skilled, bc that is what made Zeller, a guy who has elite athleticism and skills, a top 5 pick. Wiggins as well is also more skilled than Troy, but not even close to as skilled as Jabari Parker. Guess what? Wiggins is drafted ahead of Parker bc of his potential. The more athletic you are, the more potential. Troy will have no problem staying in the NBA when he goes bc there will always be a team seeing the potential, whether he is extremely skilled or not.

I am in no way doubting Troy at all. I definitely think he can do it. I mean if ones goal is to simply make it and be on a roster thats one thing. But to be an impact player is a different case. Take Gerald Green for a second. High draft pick , guy can dunk out the wazhoo, his is a crazy athlete, but until last year he bounced around from team to team to the d league, europe, etc. If someone leaves to early just based off potential, its really risky. Green is only one of the names. Another name that isn't well known these days is James White. McDonalds all american. Won the McDonalds dunk contest they had. He was being compared to all the greats. He played two years at the university of Florida then University of Cincinnati (16ppg one year). He was known for being athletic and a great dunker. The guy has bounced from team to team in the NBA, then to back and forth between the NBA and Europe. He is currently in Europe. He was a super athlete without the rest of the skills to back it up.
Again, I have no doubt that if Troy has his shot on point and gets better on D and makes better decisions with the ball, he won't have to worry about any of this talk and won't be another James White or one of the other million names on the list. Im not doubting him at all. Im just saying we gotta pump the brakes on him to the NBA until we see some games this year

Hitting jump shots in practice is a lot different than in live action.I hope Troys shooting has improved and it sounds like he's really worked hard on it.Without that improvement and better ball handling skills a stable career in the league is very doubtful.

Hit 9 three's in a row once
In the gym

He's a legitimate 3 from getting paid the big bucks. Unfortunately, that is not what we are going to need this year from him . I see him in the 4 role and probably 5 depending on our foul issues and how much we want to get out and run. We have no size, no subs, and little talent with our bigs outside of Hanner. Sad, but true.

Why would we play Troy at the 5 over DD and Holt if HMP ran into foul trouble?

It won't happen. DD and Holt will back him up
