I hate the Big Ten

Recommended Posts

It's bad enough this conference is near its historical nadir and we have to hear about how bad it is every weekend.

Then we had the silly division names for a couple years before someone finally sobered up and did away with them.

So then the Big Ten, in its quest to expand to Timbuktu and back, puts us in a division with OSU, Michigan, MSU and PSU. Now it looks like Maryland is going to be around to annually kick our butts as well. Meanwhile, a sorry-ass program in Purdue is getting Minnesota, Northwestern and Illinois instead of OSU, UM and PSU.

But wait, Michigan is a different animal now. They're currently trailing Minnesota at the half, AT HOME, their offense is totally pathetic and their coach is probably getting canned after this season. I mean, UTAH went in there and shut them down. But we had a reasonable chance of winning up there last season, so why not this year? Wait, you mean we don't get them at home? We're playing up there again because the scheduling changed to accommodate the newcomers?

Screw this league. We're just a glutton for punishment.

I wish we had a football team. So many years with false hope. I was in school during the Mallory years, even road tripped up to MSU when we could have won the BT. We don't need to be great. Just good.

I feel your pain. It's frustrating how nothing ever seems to change with this program. It really isn't that difficult to make a bowl game in this day and age, yet we're hoping like hell we somehow do it. I know there are structural barriers to overcome, but it's not like we're Eastern Michigan or New Mexico State. This program has what it needs to win and get better, but it just doesn't happen.

I mentioned this in the game thread, but I've developed a masochistic way of rooting for my football teams because I grew up supporting really bad ones. Think of watching a game with your friends, and after a negative play someone says "Oh come on, how does that happen?" That's basically what I do on here. I think of game threads as a place for knee-jerk reactions and things you'd say out loud just to be funny. Some people play along and contribute other humorous overreactions or sarcastic remarks. Others hate it and act like you told them their first-born child will never amount to anything in life. I do this with many teams I support because I care about them, not because I'm "not a real fan." I've been called every name in the book by fans (mostly not on this board) who don't want to hear "negative comments," but you just have to let them be.

It's just the way we're wired as fans. Life would be boring if everyone reacted the same way to everything.
