IU @ Bowling Green Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I was at my in-laws and finally got the game turned on...just in time to see Coleman fumble. And then to see our defense not actually come onto the field for the last two drives. When I got home the first thing I did was delete the recording of the game from my dvr.

When BGSU scored the last touchdown my non-football fan mother-in-law told me that at least we kept it close. I had to calmly explain that there is no reason for us to ever lose to a MAC school. She asked if we had lost to MAC schools before and I had to admit that we had...routinely. She asked If I was sure that my we shouldn't lose to MAC schools and it became harder to explain.

This was a bad day.

Sometimes people that don't follow sports at all can really put things into perspective that we can't necessarily grasp. Sounds like your mother-in-law nailed it today.

Can we still make a bowl? Projected wins and losses for the rest of the year?

Technically it is possible.  But we just took a torch to whatever little margin of error we possess.  The problem with this loss is our next game.  At Missouri.  Unless we pull of some miraculous, sudden turnaround then we are looking at yet another 2-2 OOC record which means we need to win 4 conference games.  One can argue we have 4+ winnable conference games (Maryland, Rutgers, Iowa, Penn State (?), Purdue) but I'd have a tough time saying we would win at least 4 of those games based on what I am seeing.  We will probably be at least in a position to win enough of those games, but can we finish?

I was able to tune in right before Coleman broke his second TD run, late in the 3rd.  I don't think I saw the defense come onto the field period.

It's possible, in theory.  We have to win pretty well all of our winnable games though, and to do that the defense will have to take some gigantic steps forward.  What we saw today gave me flashbacks to the UM game last year, except we were facing a second string MAC QB.......just thinking about that makes me sick.

I never would've guessed that we'd miss Ewald so much. I knew he was really good but I didn't know our second choice couldn't make anything more than a PT.

Also, I didn't want much of the PU vs ND game but I did see most of the first half. From what I saw, if we played like we did yesterday and Purdue played like they did in that first half, I'd say there's a good chance they would've beaten us.

Looks like it was a good thing I was at a golf fundraiser during the game. This is terrible, no excuse for losing this game. A lot more hopes for this season, but it's getting lower.

The defense has to take some steps forward, and soon.  Simple as that.  The offense scored enough to win most games (again), and was again let down by a defense that would struggle to stop a high school team.

I expected growing pains switching to the 34, but that was ridiculous.  That was a UM showing against a 2nd string MAC QB.

@MikeMillerHT: Wilson: "We have seniors who now are playing part time, and I saw some looks on the faces I didn't like." #iufb

Anyone knows what this means? Are we going to be seeing some fresh faces on defense?

Looks like underclassmen are outplaying seniors and the seniors are whining.

Let's not get carried away here.  We're not good again this year, but Purdue is one of the worst teams in the nation again.

Like I said I didn't see much but from what I saw they looked much more efficient than they had.

This was the game that now makes me think we will be making more than one revenue sports coaching changes.  Until yesterday, I had believed that Coach Wilson was the man to get us to the point where we were consistently making bowls.  I lost that belief yesterday.

Theres a good roster here for Rod Carey to inherit. This was the nail in Wilsons coffin. 3 losses to MAC teams. 2 losses to Navy. Hes not getting it done. Look at Jerry Kill and Minnesota.

IU has a rare opportunity to have the inside track on a guy that is likely to be a hot commodity come the offseason. If Wilson can't turn this season around and someone get to a bowl, the fans/boosters will be calling for his head. Rod Carey has done wonders at NIU and this year is showing he can win w/o Jordan Lynch. Being a Hoosier, he would have much more of a connection to this program than any others that come calling.

When has IU football had any upper hand in snagging a hot coaching prospect? No bowl = no more CKW, in my opinion.
