Where were you? #NeverForget

Recommended Posts

I was three, so I don't remember. I was probably at home in Goose Creek, SC, but I could be really wrong.

I don't remember exactly when or how old I was, but I remember my mom eventually explaining to what happened.

Very, very sad that anyone would choose to do something to hurt so many people (or any people for that matter).

I was in fourth grade. My teacher was told by another teacher, turned on the tv, and immediately turned it off. My parents sat my brothers and me down that night and explained what had happened. I just remember being scared that there was going to be a major war and it could be brought to american soil.

I was at work when I heard the news. It seemed like, all of a sudden, the world was no longer a safe place to be. I went home around lunchtime to see my wife. I needed to be with her. It was a time when we all felt great sadness for the dead and their loved ones. But it was also a time when people pulled together. Family, friends and the welfare of our fellow Americans truly mattered.

This is in no way directed at anyone here in particular. I just wish some people would care all the time instead of just on September 11th, July 4th, and Veterans Day. It's one of those things that's always driven me nuts. Show respect and give thanks all the time not just on those 3 days.

Maybe I'm an idiot? This is a thread about specifically remembering the events of 9/11. You then use examples of one holiday that is generally for celebrating America, and one holiday of remembrance for former service people. Then you wish "people would care all the time" about the common thread of those three events. There are tons of things that we could care about because of your post.

Military service people (soldiers, sailors, pilots, and everyone in between)
Public service people (firemen and police)
Americans
America generally
Remembering things (though, I can't give thanks to memories)
Politics?
Religion?
All of the above?

It's like a clickbait headline. "You won't believe the things people only care about on these three days!"

I honestly have no idea how else I can put it. I thought what I said was about as simple as it gets. Some people only care about those things on those days. They should care about them on all the other days too. If you wouldn't show respect/give thanks everyday then don't pretend and do it on those particular days.

It's not "click bait". It's pretty simple and keeping it simple would do wonders. I'm completely convinced you're trying to get a rise now.

Edit: I took out the common sense comment because I didn't want anyone to take it as a personal shot.

Or should people just generally care? Like, be more caring? Though, then they care on Valentines day too. Don't people care about the troops and America on Memorial day too? You just ask people to "care" "give thanks" and "show respect" more often, but not to whom they should do so.

You must be a lawyer...not that there's anything wrong with that!

I think about these things everyday...I honestly do...of course, it's easier to think about when my son is currently in the Marine Corps, but I did anyway...

I don't necessarily express those thoughts to others outwardly, much less on an IU sports-themed websight...but I can honestly say I think about the aforementioned each and every day...

Clickbait was a simile. You can't get mad at me for wording something poorly and having someone not understand. You can't figure out how to say it because you already know what you're trying to say and are filling in the blanks in your head.

And you can say what "those things" are, that's how you make speech clear. You tell people what you're talking about. How do you not get it? You keep using undefined pronouns. If I say "nobody seems to care about that" but I never tell you what "that" is, then how are you supposed to know? Even in this post you just call them "those things" and "them". I guess the answer is "all of the above" then.

It is a shame that they only care about them on those days.

It is a shame that you're trying to start an argument for no reason. It's rather pathetic actually. How is it that everyone else got it but you couldn't? Keep trying to start that argument bud even though nothing will come from it.

That's why I said I wasn't directing it at anyone here. I know may people think about it and show respect any chance they get. I just know/heard of people that don't care about it and they'll tell you just that, but when those days come around it's a whole different story.

I appreciate your sons service along with your families. People don't understand the toll it takes on our Service Members families too.

The best is that even this thread turned into a argument lol. I was working when it happened

listen...the point of this board is to discuss...that's what we do...

if you didn't like sharing your opinion with those that contrast yours...you wouldn't have ever signed up...

(this is where I'm actually complementing you, coons...so don't get offended)

I understand your sentiment though...9/11 is sacred...and it is...but it's still open to varying opinions and discussion...

in my humble opinion.
