Sudfeld

Recommended Posts

I will be the first to admit that my knowledge of IU football is not very in depth. However, I do follow every season. Can you guys give a few opinions on why Sudfeld looked so different on Saturday? Is our receiving core that drastically different? Shane Wynn seemed to be an almost non factor. I loved the way we ran the ball but I wonder if we can keep that up against stronger opponents. Has our O-Line regressed? It seemed like he may have just been out of sync but I have to say he seemed less confident on the field, at least to me anyways. Thoughts?

I didn't watch the game but what I gathered is the D consistently dropped 8 back which opened up the run game. They basically said beat us with the run because you won't be doing it by air. That's exactly what we did.

They played Wynn tight as he's our go to amongst this young bunch. And until another receiver steps up I expect Wynn to be doubled up on more times than not this year.

I can't speak for specifically to Suds specific play (ie reads, etc) m but he has in the past been terrible about eyeing his receiver from snap. It needs to be better this year as he is 'the guy'.

Yeah he looked a little uncomfortable sitting in the pocket. They were dropping about 65 guys into a zone. If teams keep doing that, Tevin will continue Tevining. I'm not all that worried. They locked down Shane and we didn't really give him many looks as far as screens or anything.

Probably a combination of a lot of things. ISU playing basically a prevent defense against our long ball passing game. Nate simply holding onto the ball too long, and I think the offensive line still left a little to be desired on the field. I will say that I wish Nate did a better job of going through his progressions. This is another application of the comment Natty made about how he stares his receiver from the snap. He has always kind of struggled with reading zone coverages and adjusting to them as well

That drive with the 3 straight sacks worries me. He has to have receiver option 3 and 4 in his head immediately when the play breaks down. He didn't really seem to roll out and throw it away as much which worries me he isn't reading how much the pocket is collapsing

Looked like he was playing Madden. If the first route wasn't there, he was gone. A little bit troubling. Still wondering where the eff Booth was.

He needs to get rid of the ball quicker, but the D was playing pass which would have an impact (and open up our run game).  We'll need a couple receivers to step up though, right now Wynn is our only proven target so the D will focus on taking him away.

It was a combination of Indiana State defense protecting the pass, young receivers not running the right routes/not being totally in sync with Nate, the nerves of the first game of the season, and Sudfeld not reading the defense quick enough to get rid of the ball. I've also read in a few other  forums that it could have also been by design to not give (practically any) film to our next opponent, Bowling Green. Since Bowling Green's starting QB is done for the year my guess is we'll see the same type of plain vanilla offense that we saw against Indiana State for the majority of the game. I think if we do this, Mizzou will again have no film to study on us. In the end, Sudfeld is one of the better QB's in the Big Ten and the offense will get more in sync as the season progresses but as it was mentioned, some of the young receivers will have to step up.

I chalk it up to first game jitters and no Kofi Hughes or Cody Latimer

We have one of the best lines in the conference. When the D drops 8 guys into coverage the entire game, you cram it down their throats and rack up 450 rushing yards. Now, Sud does need to be more decisive, but I think IU fans are being a bit melodramatic about this passing thing. It's good to have more than one way to win.
