Jeremiah April In Boot

Recommended Posts

I agree it's reality that some on this team may not be here next year due to NBA or otherwise. And--I am OK with them leaving if they choose to leave on their own...but I cringe when posters start talking about who needs to transfer or leave without even seeing them play yet.  These are people we are talking about---people who chose to play for IU when others would not---we owe them a chance to show us what they got and at least give them a chance to improve and develop throughout the year before we move on to the next shiny object that may not be any better!  I personally want to build some depth with some players who actually stay here multiple years!  OK---rant over----I don't know about you ----but I feel better now!

 I agree,

What really bothers me though is players we have seen play who were offered frosh year in state. It makes no sense to me what so ever to offer that early with most players. Now a Eric Gordon Or a George McGinnes type maybe, but this scatter shot approach to recruiting drives me crazy. Then every yeay wondering who is going to leave because of an oversign.

To badmouth kids that have never played a game is just classless.I actually think April might find a role on this team.Seems mobile and has a nice touch and really good hands from the film I've seen.Cant teach 6'11' 'Go Jeremiah! Go Hoosiers!

Was Creaning the one out included in Fred Glass' guaranteed 4 year scholarships to athletes? Or will every athlete now leaving the basketball program's reason is to find more playing time elsewhere? I guess the 4 year promise is only as good as the paper it's written on, and actively recruiting and getting commits when you're already full for the next year is going against your athletic director's written policy. I know your argument will be we will have 3 leave early for the NBA lol. I think Crean would be better served in awarding any available scholarship to a deserving walkon that may not contribute vs. giving it to a project freshman big or another that he plans to run off the following year who won't contribute either.

I have no trouble believing that if one of the players wanted to stop playing basketball and just get a degree that they would find a way to get them a scholarship. Also, you're looking at the promise way too narrowly. Even 3 basketball players are fewer than .05% of the student-athletes at IU. There are still hundreds of student athletes benefiting. The point of the program is more for students who get hurt and are unable to continue playing, previously they would be screwed unless the university felt gracious.

Two points here:

1.) What happens when Crean fills all scholarships, stops recruiting, and then has three players unexpectedly leave? The program is screwed. He knows his players intentions best, and has to predict early departures. Interesting how there has never been a real over signing issue come the start of the season, or sign that Crean understands the team needs.

2.) The new Student Bill of Rights four year scholarship guarantee is in place to prevent scholarship removal by the program, extend the ability for athletes who leave early to come and finish their remaining scholarship years, and to protect a student athlete who is injured from losing their scholarship. Name examples of players other than Matt Roth, who received four years of a basketball scholarship, who were stripped of their scholarship and told to leave. All of them left for more playing time at a program that had to PT to offer them, or because they were home sick (Fischer), or didn't like to follow our rules (Hollowell). You can say that this is unique to Crean and he is running off players, but you'd be wrong. This is not unique to Crean, and you have no proof that any of these players left for any other reason than to obtain more PT.

Thanks bnkepner---maybe I was a little harsh and this is not even directed at most of our posters-- but I surfed multiple IU message boards today to get the pulse of Hoosier Nation and I was shocked at some people specifically discussing Colin--April---or Tim-- and basically saying they will be gone next year---or using the code---we know three people who won't be here next year.  So irritating and so unfair! What's ridiculous is they were saying the same thing about Nick until he went off in Canada! GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO SUCEED BEFORE YOU CALL THEM FAILURES! They are IU Hoosiers! And to your point bnkepner--not all players come in as starters----some have to develop.... I am embarrassed at some of our fanbase and hope the boys don't read these message boards-- but we know they do. I just hope they know not all of us feel the same way!

Those are the kind of people who when you walk into a club and see them sitting at the bar, you turn and hit a different club.

He was at one of the soccer games 2 weekends ago. He had the boot on but I don't think he had crutches. I didn't get a good look, the band started playing and I had to pay attention. By the time we were done, I couldn't find him anymore.

Most of the team did show up to the volleyball game last Friday but I didn't see him there. It's pretty intimidating playing drums with the entire IUBB team staring down your back.

I'm trying to think of where Jeremiah April will fit this year, even if healthy.  The Boot on his foot may be a total precaution kind of thing or it could be something that he'll have to play through this year, but I really don't worry about it.  Assuming our front court stays healthy this year, then I imagine Hanner and Davis will get the majority of the minutes with Holt getting some time this year, as well.  I am intrigued to see how Jeremiah April will eventually fit in.  Aside from Cody Zeller, IU has not had a great or very good Post Presence.  Guys like Tijan, Bawi, Bobby Capo, Jurkin, and Pritchard come to mind.  None of those guys are much to write home about, so hopefully Jeremiah can play without fouling and just work on his rebounding and defense and I'll be happy.
