Best NCAA coach in the game right now?

Recommended Posts

What is being missed is Few is doing that with UNHERALDED players. Even being competitive consistently against the top 25 is an accomplishment. He wins some but losses a few more. He his consistently competitive against the BIGGER schools. He gets unranked and 3 stars players mostly. Playing against teams filled with 4 and 5 stars is not an equal playing field. Hence, my comparison to Butler with Stevens.

He gets MORE with LESS. i.e. a great coach!

How do you rationalize this list in that order? Whether you look at it recently or historically, Coach K has done more than anyone on that list. More NCAA titles than all of them combined and has won one more recently than all but Cal. Furthermore, he has had a longevity and consistency that is unmatched by any of the. #1 recruiting class this year as well as coaching the USA national team...

How is he #4?

I read the title? Early tournament exits and underachieving teams puts him RIGHT NOW at number 4

Just curious to hear everyone's take on Bill Self. Good, bad, indifferent?

He's a good coach. But I would like someone to rationalize bashing Crean for not winning it all with 2 NBA lottery picks when Self lost to Stanford with 2 NBA lottery picks...Wiggins and Embiid. Syracuse was a way better team than Stanford. If Bill Self is the same as Brad Stevens, then so is Crean. They both develop 3 stars in to great players and the both exited in the Sweet 16 with two NBA lottery picks.

I agree CampCrean but Kansas still recruits at an Elite level. Why is IU struggling so horribly then? This is my point with our recruiting struggles. People want to blame that early tourney loss and missing NCAAs. Well, Duke and Kansas consistently lose early and UK missed NCAAs with a bunch of 5 stars.

I think it's because "They're Duke, Kansas, UK, etc." Those are still dream landing spots for recruits, regardless of results.

And also both schools have recently won titles as well in the last 5-7 years

If you really want the best coach in the game right now look no further than Calipari all BS aside. Dude worked miracles last year to get that team to gel together. He really doesn't get enough credit from the coaching aspect because he is known for his recruiting.

What do you mean IU can't get recruits? Last year's recruiting class was stellar. This year we were planning on having Luke Fischer so we didn't get a replacement for Vonleh. We have JB2 and RoJo. We had to get two big men out of desperation. We missed out on Lee and the kid who went to UNLV. I think if we still had Fischer there wouldn't be this "why can't we recruit" discussion.

It started off as a great class, it didn't end that way. All things considered I certainly wouldn't classify our class as "stellar".

I still think last year's class was extrememly nice (stellar), even without Fischer. We had a lotto pick, 2 guys in Stan and Davis who I think will be incredible 4 year guys. Troy could be the same unless he reaches his potential early. And I'm one of few still waiting to see what Hartman can eventually bring us.

Thing about Duke, Kansas, Kentucky is they make the tournament Ev.er.y. Year. So it's not all that bad if they get knocked out early.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

As a Duke fan it's terrible to get knocked out early. It's embarrassing and a huge under achievement to the goals the team sets at the beginning of the year. Two out of the last 3 years have been total WTFs.
