(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU

Shake would be a great get. The way he controls the game is very impressive. He had one game where he did turn the ball over quite a bit in a game that got pretty sloppy overall, but I did get the sense that it wasn't typical after watching Mokan in two other games.He is well coached. His driving game is very impressive and he uses his size and body control to ward off defenders and finishes with touch. From watching his games this July, he is actually very hard to block, contrary to the post above. Statistics support this as he gets fouled quite a bit. It isn't textbook, and maybe that causes a stir, but it's effective. His size at 6-5 makes him a walking mismatch for most teams. He can defend the 1-3 but needs to commit himself here, imo. He has the tools to be a great defender. 

 

Having said all that, I'm not as confident about our chances with him. I've said before that IU does a great job on their visits and having him along with his friend and teammate will be an added bonus. Morgan I feel more confident about, and getting him helps with Shake but doesn't make it a sure thing the way getting Shake helps with Morgan. I just have heard Milton may want to stay home.I have no insight into the Illinois position but if I'm rooting against one team in this recruitment it's them. 

 

Morgan/Shake would go a long way towards helping our recruiting momentum heading into the fall/spring. IU still has to win games to get it back though.

I hope we don't scare him off with using our last scholarships. I know we can oversign by one, but if Morgan and Shake are a possible package deal, I would hope we have room for them...especially if they are ready to commit in the near future.

Actually we can sign as many as we want up to 13 .

Right, But Coach Crean could start fresh if he wanted to. I know that's not happening I'm just pointing out the "over sign" myth. Coach Crean know his program best and the Big Ten allows the coaches to make the signing decisions.

I guess I may be missing the point of what you're saying so I apologize. But "start fresh" is exactly what a lot of posters are arguing against. The point is that we are full on scholarships which we have given to players. If we want a 2015 commit, we have to take away a scholarship from someone essentially. That's frowned upon by a lot of people on the board and that's why they hate over signing players.

there is actually a certain date by which you have resolve any oversigning situations, at which point there are violations with the NCAA.

I agree with the over sign stigma. But you have to give the coaches the lee way to adjust to upcoming roster changes. Crean is not gonna come out and say a player may be homesick, struggling with academics or the system or whatever the case may be . He may have told a player[s] to do your best this year and we'll help you find a better fit program wise next etc. Crean also has the inside scoop on what scouts/Gms are saying about pro potential of our current roster.

Shake already has an OV scheduled this weekend, which could've prevented him from moving our OV to come with Juwan. We stay near the end with Shake though, which seems like a positive in my mind.

Anybody hearing anything on Shake and how his visit went at SMU this past weekend?  If we get Morgan as we suspect--we may be turning our sights to Shake next!   A 6'5" pg to follow Yogi doesn't sound too bad!

If we had a scholarship or two available, I would feel good about Shake. I wish he would wait till Spring.
