Spoke with Coach Crean the other night...

I was at a fundraising gala the other night at which Mr. Crean was an honored guest. I was fortunate enough to get to speak with him for a little bit. First of all, he came into the room full of volunteers and met everyone in the room, and he was the only celebrity guest to do that. But, one of the coolest things I took from the night was when I said to him,

"I'd just like to thank you for bringing back Indiana basketball for us."

To which he replied,

"Ohhh yeah, well we are going to bring it alllllll the way back."

I thought that was pretty awesome, and I wanted to brag a little too.

You can't fault Coach Crean for being optimistic. I am thinking delusional, but wanted to be nice. :P

Good story.  Crean always is very gracious and happy to talk with fans no doubt.

 

On a related note when I visited IU my senior year of high school Kelvin Sampson was coach.  On the way into campus we stopped by Assembly Hall and as we were walking down to the court Kelvin was up the stairs.  We shook his hand but barely as he breezed past us unable to stop for even a second.

I've gotten to talk to him a couple of times. He's a great guy, very kind and respectful.

I went to an IU basketball game with my dad the year that they had 12 wins (they won that game), and we got to go see the court because we got there a few hours early. Crean was standing on the other side of the gym, saw us, and walked over to us to say hi. He took pictures with me, signed a program and gave it to me, and had someone open up cook hall for us so I could shoot around for a bit.

Safe to say it was the best experience of my life.
