Thoughts on Donald Sterling's Lifetime NBA Ban?

Recommended Posts

This has been a crazy story.  Has anyone followed this closely?  Wonder what will happen if the owners don't force the sale of the team.  A lot of people will say it's a no brainer, but do other owners want to set that precedent?  That's the big issue.

Every owner would want him gone and probably thinks he should be gone.  That vote will come down to if they want to set the precedent of removing and forcing a sale for private conversations that were leaked to the public.  Will be interesting to see.

Great move by Silver here. I think he will be a good commish in the long run as well. As for the Clippers, Magic already said he doesn't want to buy them. Sterling will still get a ridiculous amount of money for that team. Don't be surprised to see Seattle rumors swarming either.

Well as of yesterday he didn't want to. Just searched twitter and it looks like he does now.

Yea it really sucks that he's gonna get over $1 billion for being a jackass. Seems like the type of guy that would be smiling and laughing when he makes out that $2.5 million check.

Magic denied it, but that was just out of respect to the league. He wanted the decision to come first.

He already is a billionaire. The rich just get richer...

What will ESPN do for laker talk when they can't just hit up the new clipper owner as to why the lakers suck anymore.

They'll just let Bill Simmons slobber over the Celtics more than he already does.

Not trying to argue or say you're wrong, but just curious what you think he would have done? I don't think anything less would have settled this.

Stern and Sterling were buddies. They had (on record) extremely racist conversations together.

If he didn't do the same thing, all hell would have broke loose in the NBA. This would have been the only solution.

I agree that it would've been wrong on all accounts. But I'm not convinced Stern wouldn't have found an alternative. I think he would've given a much larger fine and given the players the option of abandoning their contracts. Or something to that degree.
