We Need Two!

Recommended Posts

We need immediate help and a project or someone that cannot do this is a waste of scholarship. I say Crean should focus on the juco route then you have a two year gamble vs. 4? Sampson did it with Stemler and Mike White and they actually contributed. The urgency to win now should be priority 1 for Crean.

[quote name="scottybower" post="59742" timestamp="1397508272"]Honestly, give Crean the best guards in the country and forget the big men. He can't do anything with them anyway. But he's proven himself to be a high caliber coach for guards and wing players.

From an offensive perspective sure, but we need at least a few solid big men for defense. We could get abused in the post with no real answer for it as we are right now

It was my understanding Calbert was offered an assistant job here but turned it down then took the same position with an ex IU player. How could an assist at St. Louis be a step up from one at IU?

As I recall Calbert didn't feel like he was ready at the time and wasn't ready for the extra time involved either. He wanted to stay a dbo for a couple of more years.

But left for the same position offered at IU before the next school year. So, he either became ready for the extra time involved in a couple of months or didn't feel comfortable taking the same position at his alma mater. The latter where he was currently employed before he left. It's obvious to me he wasn't comfortable with this staff although I have no inside info. Proof is in his decision.

Or option 3 - timing is rarely perfect for job moves. Maybe he wanted a couple extra years, but knew the job on Crews' staff was too good to turn down; especially when taking his past relationship with Crews into account.

Going back to the original thread topic of needing big men...when do we go back to the Darius Latham option?

I know he is only 6'5" but is a round mound of rebound with a nice shooting touch.  I believe he was an Indiana boys all-star as well.  At this point, It looks like a pretty good option even if it is only for one season and a partial season at that.

Latham was a productive high school player, but the best thing for him would be focusing on football.

Isn't Darius Latham signed on to IU Football?  Is it even an option for him to switch to bball? Probably wouldn't be the best decision for him, i'm assuming.

He can play both sports. He would be walking onto the basketball team.
