The Rangers did a good job IMO.  I'm disappointed the Cardinals didn't do more.  The talent is there, but it's not working.  Wacha hasn't been the same since his first stint for half a season.  Luckily we get Lynn back next season, but you have to have a spot for Reyes next year imo.  Wainwright, Lynn, Martinez, Leake, Reyes.  That's Wacha and Garcia that can be expendable, and that's not including a good lefty in Tyler Lyons who's pitched well as of late.  I love my Cardinals, but the front office are too proud at times to take a gamble.  Trade Wacha or Garcia, include one or two of Matt Adams, Randall Grichuk, and Jhonny Peralta to get a really good OF or 1B.

I feel you on the front office; Cashman is a good GM but the Steinbros and Levine won't stop meddling.

I don't mind the Texas deal from the Yankees perspective.  A young pitcher with high upside for a couple month rental DH.

Thank god some dissent is starting. Dude been on a pedestal too long. Made the playoffs 4 straight years and lost 3 straight games to get booted all 4 years. Most of those losses from having too much faith in his starting pitcher.

No real rumblings. Not his fault the front office won't help him. Matheny is an awesome dude and good manager.

Starting pitching was supposed to be the biggest strength this year, but has been the weakest part of the team. Also doesn't help that the front office is enamored by the offense (one of the better ones in the NL), but is skewed. Helps when one game you score 15 runs, then can barely score 1 or 2 runs the next two games.

The team needs a shake up, but it won't happen. Just hope and pray Carpenter and Peralta can get healthy, then the starters can get their heads out of their butts.

In what has been a wonderful year for my Cubs today came the most awful news.  Marlins ace Jose Fernandez died at 24 in a boating accident.  Truly one of the top pitchers in baseball has been taken away at a very young age.  RIP

He's a good regular season manager but he has shown an inability to learn from his mistakes in the postseason that will eventually do him in. His unwillingness to pull starting pitchers that look shaky is unacceptable. It's no wonder they are so focused on the offense tbh he does a crap job managing starting pitchers in the postseason so my guess is they are try to build a roster that just assumes the other team is going to score runs regardless.

Just for kicks and giggs, do some research on Shohei Otani if you get bored by the NFL today. Here's the opening paragraph of a Deadspin article on him:

Some things that 22-year-old Shohei Otani has done this year: break his own record for the fastest pitch ever thrown in Japanese baseball (102 mph), post a 1.86 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 20 games as a starting pitcher, hit really ******* well when he wasn’t pitching (.322/.416/.588 with 22 home runs), and put all of that together to lead the Nippon Ham Fighters to the Japan Series Title.

Will he hit .322 in the MLB? Doubtful, but 102mph travels across the Pacific just fine. Some say he'll bring in $300million at some point. He could possibly come over this offseason with a dreadful free agent class.

I wonder if the Chris Sale trade helps the White Sox by beginning the rebuilding.  They have some other decent pieces to trade but once they start down this path, they have to go all in.

Absolutely it does IMO. I am a diehard Cubs fan and think they should have got more than Kopech as a 2nd piece, but with the Red Sox covering Moncada's remaining money that is probably why. I just like Benintendi more than Moncada personally.

They tried like hell to get Benintendi, but Boston wouldn't budge. Almost didn't get Moncada, rumors are the supposed deal with the Nats was a bluff to get the Bosox to cover Moncada's money. I doubt it tho, our front office is not near that smart.

Which leads me to the whole rebuild question. Sox can get a haul for Quintana and Abreu. I'll wait patiently to see if this all works out,  the "rent a retread" method was getting us no where.

I don't honestly know much about the two lower level guys, but Kopech has been suspended 50 games and broke his hand in a fist fight with a teammate. He has talent for sure, but thought they could do better. Absolutely the right move to jumpstart the rebuild though.
