OT: UNLV's coach considering South Florida

Recommended Posts

I am not following. Are you saying that Noah did not like Goodluck or did not like Crean when he was recruiting Goodluck?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

The word was Noah was unhappy with Crean during the time we were recruiting Goodluck. It was one of the prevailing thoughts as to why we didnt land GO. GO and NV were and are friends.

Side note- UNLV class with Morgan, Vaughn, and GO is sick. Not sure how hard of a worker GO is though. Strikes me as one that won't fulfill his potential.

Aside- devils advocate, even if NV didnt like Crean, he still needs to be extremely thankful. He went from 8-10 ranked freshman to 8-10 projected NBA pick. That is really successful as a one and done. Many 8-10 ranked guys don't go in one in done lottery.

Deep draft class. Noah was always projected to be one and done. Crean had nothing to do with that.

Fully disagree. Look back at recruit rankings. Check the percentage of 8-12 ranked recruits and see how many of those are lottery picks the following year. The numbers are very low. The 1-5 recruits commonly go lottery but not the 8-12 guys.

I realize Crean may not have done that much on the court, but he marketed his personality, his work ethic, and his increased strength. Also, he limited exposing Vonlehs weaknesses of which there were several.

Crean also took #15 rated Zeller and helped him into the 4th spot as a sophomore.

As much as I dislike Crean right now, you can't argue with those numbers.

To be fair, Zeller got drafted too high.  Crean had nothing to do with Jordan making a bad drafting decision.

Also that draft class was seen as one of the worst in recent history.

What does Cody have to do with it? Noah was projected one and done because sit was considered a deeper than normal draft class. We all knew this when he committed to IU.

I think we need a formula on here that's like the 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon or whatever. We can call it the 12 Degrees of BtownBanners Threads.

The point is even if Noah wasn't completely happy with this year he has to give the program some credit for solidifying his position and displaying hi strengths. There's more examples of recruits ranked in range he was that didn't go one and done than ones who actually did.

Unfortunately for us, it seems the South Florida job has created some leverage for Rice with UNLV. Certainly good for him, and I don't blame him a bit. Doesn't seem too smart for UNLV to not match the contract with what Rice has going on there, but who knows.

Sorry folks, I tried..

UNLV's Dave Rice is no longer a candidate at South Florida, sources told ESPN: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/10693873/dave-rice-no-longer-candidate-coach-south-florida-bulls

Yeah, he isn't leaving those recruits. Thanks for update.
