OT, Calbert to IUPUI?

Recommended Posts

I'll say it now. Calbert is the only former Hoosier player I would want to be our head coach. I think he's going to be REALLY good.

Agree, but not yet.

I'm interested to see his style of coaching, and what system he wants to employ on both ends. Crean and Crews don't exactly run very similar systems, and he has been on both staffs, though in different roles, I think.

Calbert's role here was non-coaching.

I kind of hope that Calbert holds off for something better. IUPUI is terrible right now. It could take awhile to build them back up.

I'm in the same boat. I read a lot about how things like admissions standards for IUPUI athletes really held back the former coach too, and that was a big part of Hunter leaving a few years ago.

If he goes to IUPUI, he can turn the program around quick and look like a hero, then bounce to something bigger. If I were just getting into the coaching game id want to go to a place like IUPUI that I could put my stamp on and show a quick improvement and turn around. Makes you so much more marketable than a coach going to a 20-10 team and maintaining or maybe improving by a game or 2

I can't tell if this is sarcastic...

It's not. Rabjohns or Dopirak tweeted/wrote about it if I remember correctly. IUPUI increased admissions standards for athletes (I think the school has been in general for a while now as well) toward the end of Hunter's time there and it had an impact on recruiting. We're not talking about Stanford levels here, but enough to have an impact on a low D-1 school that has to live in the margins.

I have a vague memory of that being discussed.
