Boeheim cost Cuse that game and thinks it's funny

Recommended Posts

"Jim Boeheim thinks it's funny. His flip-out, his freak-out, the way he drew two technical fouls and an ejection with 10.2 seconds left in a two-point game, costing his team any chance it had at a late rally. He thinks it's hilarious.

And Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski thinks it's great.

One person at Cameron Indoor Stadium who seemed to grasp just what Boeheim did to his team was Syracuse senior forward C.J. Fair, whose tying basket with 10.2 seconds to play Saturday night was waved off when he was called for the offensive foul that triggered Boeheim's meltdown. It was Fair who uttered the following truth after Syracuse's 66-60 loss:

Ejection is all
ACC says no further action against Boeheim

"Maybe if we didn't get the techs, we probably still had a chance to win," Fair said. "We lost by [six]? He made three of the four free throws. You do the math.""

Lots more at the link

I thought this was an appropriate topic for a few reasons. One, we all hate Cuse so maybe we can get some Boeheim bashing in for a few days. Two, imagine if CTC had done this in a game. People were having a fit over the Michigan episode last year after the game. Imagine how the IU boards would be if coach did something like this and cost us a game.  Now, think about what the reaction would be if RMK were still at the helm and did this. Would the reaction be different? I think it's an  interesting question on the anniversary of the chair throw. Thoughts... ?

Completely agree with you. I'd suspend him for a game if I was the administration. Duke couldn't hit a free throw to save their lives last night, so fouling wouldn't have been a bad thing. It wasn't a shooting foul, so maybe they steal the inbounds pass, but instead he acts like a bad mouthed 5 year old completely ruining that game that was easily in reach. I hated Boeheim before this, but now it's on another level. Awful call, but that gives him no excuse.

Ya man we couldn't hit free throws for crap. Could not beelieeeeeve boeheim went off like that like an idiot. They play at Maryland and Virginia this week going into those games on a 2 game losing streak. I think they drop atleast one of the 2. Dumb decision and glad cj fair made that comment.

as IU fans...

we've seen a couple of coaches have similar meltdowns...

personally, I have no problem with a coach "losing it" in the heat of the moment, and would like to see our current coach get a little more emotionally involved...

I know, I know...he's a rally the troops kind of guy, but when is the last time you've seen him get a technical foul?

He got ejected against Wisconsin a couple years back and punched a door when he was leaving.  That's the last one I actually remember.  I nearly blew a gasket when Cody got thrown to the ground in the Kohl Center in front of a ref with no call and Crean didn't explode.

thank you for this response...

I can honestly say I don't recall him getting ejected...

but let me say this...there are times when he absolutely needs to get a technical to make a point, and he flabbergasts the moment...

you know what I'm talking about...

Yeah, I think we were still working with walk-ons when he did what he did.  Many times during the last couple of years, last year in particular where it could have helped.  Sometimes when you have a team that is dead you need that spark.

I agree...

listen...It's not the end of the world to get a technical...

sometimes, it actually motivates your team...sometimes...it sparks a question in the mind of the official...

Jimmy B looked like an idiot at the end of that game. You have a team that has won so many close games in unconventional fashion and take away any chance of a victory by exploding onto the court like a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum.

It was hilarious though.

I think most coaches who have the tenure and resume of Boeheim would have and should have blown up.  I guarantee that ref will think twice about calling that in the tournament.  I am not saying that is all Boeheim is worried about.  I am saying that ref should have ate that whistle with 10 seconds to go in that game.  I would be willing to bet barring something Ray Charles could see with 10 seconds left, Syracuse won't get a whistle like that in the tournament.  Part of the reason RMK always seemed to get weaker refs to be intimidated.  On the flip side he had refs like TV Ted who just wanted to show him up.
After 38 years? Boeheim is due one. No big deal, even though they lost the game. Give the guy a break.
Syracuse has given him a break for 38 years. Lot of wins but only 4 final four appearances. Seems kind of overrated to me. He has always come acrossed as a slime in my opinion.

And he has done better in the last 11 years than the first 27 years.  IU fans would want him gone if they waited that long in between titles.

If Crean was told to stay off the court he would lose it. Why does he get away with coaching outside of the coaching box every game?

You have a great point. He's the ONLY NCAA coach who does that. The ONLY one.
