Marcus Smart shoves a fan in game tonight.

I know nothing about lawsuits or law period, but what if witnesses say that the guy provoked Smart by saying something (quite possibly racist)? There were plenty of witnesses around.

Just read something that said directly after the incident, OSU radio commentators heard Smart telling coaches that the guy said THE word. Doesn't surprise me (which is awful, right?) and I can't identify with Smart's position, but I don't blame him, honestly.

If we're having a discussion about Crean being on the hot seat, then Ford should definitely be in that discussion too. Went out in the first round last year with a stacked team. Now seems to be losing his team and on the verge of dropping to a low seed in tournament. Smart is still a solid player and I think it was all out of frustration. He'll fix his attitude.

He still has to put himself above it, even if the fan did say that word.

The fan shouldn't have said it, but a lot of people misinterpret the freedom of speech.  It does not mean you can say anything you want, the first amendment just protects you from the government placing constraints on how you express yourself.

Was curious about OSU remaining schedule. With 8 games left, I would expect a multiple game suspension. Suppose he misses 3 games, he would be back for the home game against Texas Tech. Bet that doesn't happen.
Surprised Smart is going to speak. I'm guessing they prepared a major pr speech for him...
I'm glad he's speaking. It was his actions so he needs to speak. I don't think anyone in America blames him for what he did... He pushed a guy... He didn't punch/stab/shoot someone. He pushed a guy for talking.

He made a mistake, but let's not get carried away and call this Artest or anything else. If he really wanted to, that guy could have been destroyed with a Right Cross... That fan got away lucky

It's precedent setting. They need to make it clear this will not be tolerated. Yeah, he just poked a guy in the chest who most likely deserved it. That doesn't matter. The NCAA can not afford having athletes going into the stands and hitting fans.
