Purdue over Mini in 3 OT - good or bad for us?

Recommended Posts

So Purdue chokes by missing 4 foul shots in the final minute of regulation to ice it and winds up going 3 OTs. Minnesota can't capitalize on Purdue's chokes to beat a team that has been on the skids and missed some FTs that could have kept it in the game in the third OT.

While I struggle to ever root for Purdue in anything at anytime, I was thinking that after Minnesota got new life in regulation last night only to have victory snatched away that such a result would probably be the best thing that could prepare them for us on Saturday. Purdue has some time to wrong the righted ship before we go to Mackey, anyway.

So I think how it happened was the best possible outcome for us and that Minnesota's confidence should have gotten shaken as hard as it possibly could have. Anyone else want to weigh in on that?

Indiana now stands at 4-5 in B1G play. purdont and minihaha are both at 4-6 now. purdont gained ground on us but still trails. minihaha fell behind us. We now play those two with the chance to seperate us. Losing in 3OT was the best thing that could have happened to mini for us. Well, it could have been 7OT to set a record...

While I agree with Watshot that Minny will be plenty inspired for our game, nevertheless it was the best possible scenario for us:

Minny has a FAR better chance of nosing us out for an NCAA berth - Very much helps us vis-a-vis standings

Made the whole Minny team work really hard; probably necessitates less practice time before our game, and forced Hollins to play a lot of minutes on a bad ankle.

7 or 8 OTs would have been even better!

I would rather have Minnesota win. It put Purdue farther back and then us beating Minnesota will look better with that additional win. I don't think their loss helped us in any way.

It helps us in conference standings, as others have said.

Other than that, trying to extrapolate our success vs Minny from the game last night is a losing proposition. Minny will be home, we struggle against the 2-3 zone (which it looked like Minny played last night) and anything can happen on any given day in this conference.

I don't think a Minn. loss helped us either.  It didn't hurt, but didn't help.  I personally would have liked to see Mini pull that out.  They win at Mackey, and it makes them look better.  We take care of business in the barn, and we clearly separate ourselves from both of them.  I'm far more worried about how we look to the selection committee, than I am about conference standings with half the season to go.  All we need to do is take care of business right now, and not get caught looking ahead.  The standings will shake out no matter what.  I don't think we will lose to Minnesota, not based on what I've seen in their last two.

Minnesota, and just about everyone else we meet, is gonna go 2-3 zone.  Minnesota has done well throwing multiple looks at people.  I personally didn't think their 2-3 has looked very good.  They went man against Wisconsin and won.  We shoot well, we win.
We need to help ourselves and win as many games as possible. Nothing else is going to matter if we don't finish at least 10-8 in conference play.
Exactly. Minnesota winning or losing last night doesn't mean a thing if we don't go in there and beat them.
