Indiana vs Notre Dame Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Thank you I couldn't agree more with this statement. There is no reason why this team should not be in the tournament. The season is a failure if they go NIT no matter how young they are. If Indiana is really "back" an NIT season should be looked at as a wtf year.

When Indiana was "there" we went NIT here or there. Seems like we won the National Title in '81 and '87 and had a NIT visit squeezed in between the two. So if we are "back" it seems reasonable that we might not make the brackets every year. I can see Charlies looking at it as a disappointment and understand that. Looking at this team realistically I just can't call it a failure.

And I'm also wondering when he's going to schedule that all expenses paid (hookers and beer included) yearly trip to Bangkok he promised all the mods. Something he was calling a "focus group" getaway.

Since Jaybob won't go for that I volunteer to take his spot on the plane ride over.

This is an interesting point I think people lose sight of a bit. IU's never really been the school that has a top 5 team every year for an extended run, like Duke or Kansas recently, or UNC just a few years back.

At the same time I'll be disappointed with an NIT instead of making the tourney. But I think it was also right for IU fans to be disappointed in the mid 80's with the team that went to the NIT. So I guess I see both sides of it.

That sad moment when Indiana not making the tournament wouldn't feel weird. The struggles of a 17-year old Hoosier fan.

On a serious note, I do believe not making the tournament would be a disappointment.

Well, we don't need to give up yet. This team may pull it together and figure out how to get there. And its not disappointment that I don't understand, its just regarding it as a failure. This team has a lot of talent, but as a team they are just not that good. Too young, not a lot of balance, little outside shooting, and just not much leadership as far as I can see. I don't want them to settle for the NIT, I want them to fight on and be the best they can, in every game. But failure? That would be ending up in the NIT and losing to Bob Morris in the first round.

We will have to win atleast 10 with our weak wins pre-conference with no signature win.  We will probably have to beat one of the big dogs in conference as well now.  I personally don't see that, but would be disappointed as well.  I had us ultimately in the 7 seed range and we aren't close to that right now.

I feel like a Minnesota fan now from the last couple of years. That potential is there for this team to make a run. At any point it could click and it would be scary for other teams. Unfortunately for Minnesota, it never did. Hoping we don't have the same fate.

The Hoosiers play like a disjointed mess. A team that can't find a groove as a "team."  Every few possessions or so there's a tiny glimmer of hope, but what I see are a lot of individual players wearing Indiana uniforms but I definitely don't see a team.

(BTW this is my first post as well)

I feel like part of the reason they can't find a groove is because they are being zoned every game seems like and have yet to figure out how to be effective against it.

Notre Dame was ranked higher than us preseason for a reason. They have experience and we don't. They shoot well and we don't. Just an off game for everybody and a tough matchup with ND. IU will be fine in B1G

Agreed. Every possession they struggle to get inside, or when they take a shot outside, they more often than not brick it. You got Yogi driving inside every time he gets his hands on the ball (with mixed results) and Vonleh getting good looks and either NEVER getting fed the ball or struggling to finish. I can't wait to see Blackmon (hopefully) fill that Oladipo position next year, because this team needs some serious cohesion.

Yogi drives inside every time? We must be watching different games.

Excuse the exaggeration; I meant to get across that I'm in agreeance with some here that he's a pretty selfish player. Every time I watch him I get the scene from "Hoosiers" in my head where Gene Hackman tells them to pass the ball four times before taking a shot.

Yeah. It really makes me wish we had some structure in our offense. Oh wait, we got that weave thing.......oh, right......that weave hasn't led to a score since 1947.

^^^Well, I just never have seen the point to it. It doesn't confuse anybody, doesn't shake defenders, and I am not sure that I have ever seen it lead to a good shot. Really would like so see some emphasis on the shot fake, pick and roll, setting good screens, and movement and passing to create open shots.

Not a fan of the weave myself either. It seems to just waste time on the shot clock and leave us pressing to find a good shot as the clock winds down.

Shoot back in high school we just ran it to kill the clock lol
