Best IUBB Jersey Number ever?

Recommended Posts

I love this topic.  Of all the Greats that have donned the Cream and Crimson at Indiana, which jersey # is the best from top to bottom?  There are a lot of good one's...which is the best?  Also which jersey # would you choose (based on your own desire not necessarily on who has worn it in the past)?  Have fun!

(note, info is pulled from IUHoosiers.com and updated w/the current roster per espn.com)

Since you have Will on 0 and 10, I want to add that Creek also switched to 22.

There's several good players that wore 22:  Bailey, Radford, Dees, Rayl, Garrett, Strickland, with Robinson TBD.

I'd either opt for 22, Bailey is one of my all-time favorites (along with Fife), or 20 being my dad's old number when he played.

It was around midnight when I tossed this together so I do apologize for any mistakes. I likened this idea to conversations regarding the best #7s or #16s or #80s in the NFL...but with a Hoosier-twist!

AJ needs to log-in and post.

I will contact him through Twitter, as far as the numbers go, they are all equal. Growing up all I wanted to do was be a part of Indiana HS basketball because of the stories, the legends, the sport, this is Indiana. As far as numbers go I would of been any number coach Knight asked just for a chance to step on the floor as a Hoosier. This is where you may consider me old school but for me a life long Hoosier fan it is all about the name on the front, not the number. All of them are great but my favorite Hoosier of all time wore #30

I know its a longshot but I am liking number 3 for a few players.  Jay Edwards.  Tom Coverdale, DJ White, and Jerry Stuteville (part of the first IU team to finish the season ranked if that's important).  Pretty much where our history starts.

A.J.Guyton ‏@ajguyton5m
5 greatest IU jerseys of all time and should be retired ASAP. #11 #12 #40 #42 #21 (Quinn) #iubb #hoosiernation #cbb

I loved watching Guyton play, but when a number has the likes of Bailey and Dees and Garrett and Rayl it should probably be among the ones he listed.

Problem is you can't argue with what he said, but if you go that far, you are probably adding to it.  We would have players playing with 73, 82, 97, and 17...  Ha, wonder what he would think of my Pat Knight theory.

I've always liked #42 for Scottie May but before May, that number was worn by John Ritter from Goshen, IN.  John was a 6' 5" forward and played from 1970-1971 through the 1972-1973 seasons - freshman ineligible at that time.  John came to the program when Lou Watson was still coaching and was a part of the McGinnis & Downing recruiting class.   The General became head coach the following year.  On Dec. 18, 1971, Notre Dame came to Bloomington for the Assembly Hall dedication game.  IU won that game 94-29.  John Ritter scored 31 points singlehandedly outscoring the entire ND team coached by first year coach Digger Phelps!

PS:  Mike Woodson wasn't too bad either was he?
