Class of '66 Old Fart

IUWBB @ Michigan - Wednesday, 02.12.25 @ 7:00 on B1G+

Recommended Posts

I simply don't know what to expect from our team anymore.  Jekyll and Hyde performances.  Michigan (17-7) (8-5) and 10-2 at home isn't going to be a walk in the park by any means.  They average 79 ppg with a +15 scoring margin and shoot 36% on 3s attempting over 20/gm.  Another strong rebounding team (ugh) averaging 39/gm with a +7 margin.  They also average 8 steals/gm.  They have 4 in double figures with Olivia Olson their leader at 16.2 ppg.  She shoots 37% on 3s and is their second leading rebounder at 5.5/gm.  Syla Swords at 6.1 is their best rebounder.  After this game we'll be back in Bloomington for the PUkettes on the 15th and O$U on the 20th.  Our last regular season game is March 2, at West Laffy.

This could go very badly. Michigan is best team IU has played on road all season so far with two elite freshman. Unless Wolverines show their own inconsistency as a young squad and play poorly don't expect to get this one.

I fully expect the Minnesota loss to start a string of four losses in five games and make Maryland a play-in game at 16-11 and 8-8 (unless they upset OSU at home which is best chance at victory outside of near certain Purdue win). Every time they get on a hot streak they go cold and every time they go on a cold streak they get hot.

Everytime you think this team is more than a 9-11 seed in NCAA tournament a bad loss or good win shows you they are just that. This squad is an inconsistent flawed roster that Coach Moren has done the most she can with. It lacks a starting level Big Ten center which is crucial to making her system hum and its actually impressive she has them in tourney contention with such a glaring central piece missing.

Show of hands.  Should I use my mod powers and change Aaron's user name to Aaron Sadness or maybe Aaron Downer?   :farting_smiley:

I call it as I see it. I am a realist who can be negative or positive depending on what situation calls for. I think of myself as a realist.

On way to NIT vs March Madness?

Need two more non-Purdue wins to go to March Madness likely.

Path to clinch March madness is:

1. Winning both Purdue games. Two of Michigan, OSU, MSU, Maryland, or Big Ten Tourney game.

2. Winning one of the Purdue game. Three of Michigan, OSU, MSU, Maryland, or Big Ten Tourney game.

3. Lose Both Purdue games. Four of Michigan, OSU, MSU, Maryland, or Big Ten Tourney game.

Easiest by far is path one and the way season is quite likely to play out in end. My gut is they get Maryland and First Game Of Big Ten Tourney to squeak in as either last 10 seed and bye or first four in Dayton.

Ugh -- another B1G-plus game.

From what I read here, though, maybe I don't wanna watch!

Not feeling good about this one. Think the home games are more likely despite being against the tougher teams but have to get at least one more in regular season for realistic tourney shot (see above).

15-15 after 1Q.  We did hold our own on the boards but had 6 TOs.  Lexi really stepped up after Chloe went to the bench with 2 fouls scoring 6 pts. in the quarter.  We're not going to get any favorable treatment from the refs.  We were whistled for 6 total fouls; Michigan 3

Halftime and Hoosiers hold a 29-27 lead.   Big key is we are outrebounding Michigan 21-13 and that's been a strength for the Wolverines.

Pts:  Lexi 9;  Sydney 9; Chloe 5; Karoline 4      46% FG vs 32% FG for Michigan

Reb:   Yarden 5; Lexi 4; Sydney 3

Fouls:  Sydney 3, Chloe 2, Lexi 2             2 Wolverines have 2 fouls
