Chloe Spreen espn 4 star at 91…lower score Indiana Miss Basketball 5’10” at Alabama 1.2 points per game, .5 half a rebound, .5 half assist, 26.9% fg,  IU offered early but seemed to cool off as her high school career went along.  Didn’t play much at Bama hardly played.

As I understand it, IU's interest in Chloe Spreen cooled as she entered her Senior year at Bedford.
Might still be good here, Alabama is really good.

I remember Jori Allen.  Who else came to IU from Bedford?

She looks like another one who's more interested in being an influencer/model than playing ball.

Yes. That’s right Jori played at IU and her sister played at Michigan State.  The other player was Damon Bailey on the men’s side Lol.

Glenn Box on portal madness: https://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/archdeacon-transfer-portal-turning-college-basketball-into-the-wild-west/VGKQCVSX6JFSNCADYQXYNMEJGI/

Looking through the entire portal, I don't see a lot that IU could realistically pick up to improve. In a way, I think IU would be best off if the 5 leaving players would just come back. But, these players may pick up more PT elsewhere, so I can see why they are leaving. I really think that CTM needs to be more strategic in doling out PT to give players a sense of hope and development, and perhaps she could avoid this kind of mass exodus in the future.

The portal has changed the "power balance", like it or not, for better or worse (from the team perspective).

Great article.  Coach Box was really good here, and like many IU assistants before him, has landed as a head coach.  That list is quite long.

He's spot on in the article.  The Wild West is perhaps too tame a term for the craziness of NCAA basketball now.
I look for a whole bunch of small mid-major schools to simply quit Division 1 and drop back to lower divisions.  Can't compete.
Rich programs and their grossly overpaid coaches will do great.  The rest will suffer.

And I agree that Teri needs to sub more freely, especially in early season when IU is pounding people.  Hard to get better sitting on the bench watching the starters totally dominate.

Something that stands out about Caitlin Clark in spite of the physicality involved in her play both against her and with her opponents thus far in her career is her durability.

On a lower level several years ago now, Tyra Buss played against and with physicality her durability was pretty amazing as well.

Perspective:  as things wash out in transfer portal it may be ok for up to a player or two of IU players in transfer portal to kiss and make up and play next year for IU Ladies depending on circumstances and situations.  (Flexibility).

(kinda like Bob Knight kicking Steve Alford out of practice and Steve cleaning out his locker)….then eventually winning a national championship.

What does Staley have that Moren doesn’t?

Add several coaches/schools because more of the best players are walking to them to get into near top fluctuating 1 to 10 to 20 to 25 rankings.

I am at a loss as to why with all of Terries accomplishments she is not able to generate top tier movement towards IU?  Unless I’m understanding you wrong, it seems like we should be in that group at least in and out of the past several years.

Ask Matt Painter the same question. He runs that program the same way and never gets top recruits either despite all the success. Both recruit to a system that fits their culture. Its not always about stars.

Parrish, Scalia, Patberg, NCH were all highly thought of transfer/former highly ranked recruits and there are a couple of others... we just haven't needed as many until recently.

Further... our scouting and development- CMM, Holmes, Garzon, and a whole slew of others has produced (plus) players.

I understand that, but obviously there’s a break in the line somewhere because a lot of the players that she’s been recruiting have not fit a culture of big time winning.

Not really. When you take a chance on less talented system players sometimes the development and the talent is less than you thought. See Lily Meister who was expected to become a Big Ten starting center and just never developed. If you watched Moren's closing presser I posted she talked about adapting to current game and getting bigger and more athletic.

All the transfers are backups who never developed as well as she hoped which happens to all programs regardless of culture. Now she is going to recruit bigger and more athletic players. Already the two frosh coming in are highest ranked players in program history and bigger and more athletic then past recruits.

You can have a winning culture and the players being less talented than first hoped as happened here. It's happened to Painter also. Next years team will be bigger and more athletic with the best and most talented players back (Yarden, Shay, Lenee) and potentially great ones still here or coming in (Faith, the two hyped freshman).

The rest will be filled with bigger and more athletic players as she said from portal and late adds. You can have a great culture and still have some roster turnover with players who don't meet expectations on the court as happened with the transfers out.

T. Moren has been in and out and has sustained some but it’s teeter tottering as (not even counting IU Ladies in transfer portal now.  They weren’t going to be full time impact players at big ten level) projecting out IU Ladies are spiraling downward rather than upward.  (or maintaining).

A couple years ago T. Moren in her own words stated it’s one thing to make it to the top.  It’s another thing to sustain it.
The good news it is correctable.  For this year transfer portal success needed.

Maybe, out of high school, but Lilly gave 0 evidence of a big ten starting center though she was a starter some.
Not out of high school to IU but Parrish was the highest rated player ever at IU while in high school.  Patberg from ND was a 5 star.  Also both, Berger, Holmes were at least ranked as high as Makalusky in stars.

Future remains to be seen.  Makalusky is a stick right now and will go up against bigger and more athletic and yes Caffey (3) is good but same thing holds true for her.
Then, Ashlyn the following year looks sturdy and has another year of high school.

Lily gave plenty of evidence to be starter and it didn't happen. Many had every reason to believe she would be and everyone I know was extremely optimistic she would be a solid starting center. Just didn't happen. If you thought it would not work, you saw better than everyone and were in minority.

Makalusky is 20 spots ahead of Holmes and 10 ahead of Berger. She was brought in to be a shooter. We should be so lucky if she becomes Berger/Holmes.

Caffey is way more athletic then any recruit IU has ever had. Moren stressed she wanted bigger and more athletic and is about to go after that. Nothing is teetering and in words of Mike Woodson (except this time it is really true as Moren is an elite coach unlike him who only thought he was) "relax".

All will be fine and expect IU to be better than this year once roster comes together. Best players and ones with most potential (Yarden, Shay, Faith, Lenee) are back which is sign of healthy program. The portal will bring in better options than left who are more athletic and bigger for everyone who is patient.

No worries here. Adults are in charge and in a few weeks the roster will reflect that.

I hope you are right and she can start pulling in some big fish because she deserves a championship.
I would be interested in knowing what the NIL funds are for the women’s team compared to teams like UCLA or South Carolina etc.

I tend to agree with this it seems like the identifying of talent is all over the place sometimes really good and sometimes a lot of really questionable, hope she can get it figured out.
