Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 23, 2021 Author Posted March 23, 2021 NCAA Tournament second round action is set for Wednesday as No. 4 Indiana faces No. 12 Belmont at the Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University. Game time is set for 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU. NO. 4 INDIANA (19-5) VS. NO. 12 BELMONT (21-5) Wednesday, March 24, 2021 • 5 p.m. ET • NCAA Tournament Second Round Bill Greehey Arena • San Antonio, Texas Broadcast: ESPNU (Roy Philphot, Brooke Weisbrod) Radio Live Stats: NCAA.com ABOUT THE Bruins The automatic qualifier out of the Ohio Valley Conference, Belmont upset 5-seed Gonzaga on Monday to earn its first NCAA Tournament win in school history. They are led by freshman guard Destinee Wells 17.9 points per game while junior forward Conley Chinn adds 12.3 points per game and a team-high 4.8 rebounds per game. The Bruins are currently on an 11-game win streak that dates back to Feb. 13. NOTES The Hoosiers will make their seventh all-time NCAA Tournament appearance on Monday and back-to-back tourney bids for the first time since 2003 and 2004. All-time, IU is 4-6 in the Big Dance and secured its highest ever seed at No. 4 this season. Indiana advances to the round of 32 for the second-consecutive tournament appearance as it also made it in 2019 when it faced Oregon in the second round in Eugene, Ore. The Hoosiers are looking for its first Sweet 16 appearance in the modern format, making the round of 16 in the 1983 season when the field was just 32 teams. They secured their stay in San Antonio after a convincing first round win over VCU, 63-32. They held the Rams to the fewest points by an opponent by a Big Ten team in league history. Indiana outscored VCU, 41-15, in the second half behind 20 points from junior guard Grace Berger. IU and Belmont have faced each other six times before including once in the postseason which happened to be the last time the two teams faced each other. The Hoosiers escaped with a first round WNIT win in Bloomington on March 20, 2014, 48-47. A win on Wednesday would also secure a 20-win season for the Hoosiers for the sixth-straight season, continuing the longest streak in program history. UP NEXT The winner of Wednesday's game faces the winner of North Carolina State and South Florida in the sweet 16. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
JerryYeagley23 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Good start for the B1G already with Iowa advancing as the lower seed and Michigan on their way to upsetting #3 Tennessee. Bummer about Rutgers going out in the first round, but they had such a clunky season with the COVID stop-start. WayneFleekHoosier, ALASKA HOOSIER, mamasa and 1 other 4 Quote
LockdownD Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 15-12 Indiana. I need to see more defensive pressure on their jump shooters. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 Belmont 0-9 on 3s and two girls with 2 fouls apiece. Quote
LockdownD Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 5 in a row missed free throws! Good grief. Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 IU leads 30-18 at half, mainly due to Belmont not being able to hit the side of a whiskey distillery (that works for Tennessee, right?). Quote
LockdownD Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 At the half. 30-18 Hoosiers. Defense is holding them to 24%. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 We opened our lead to 30-18 limiting Belmont to 6 points in the quarter. Holmes 9 pts; Berger 8; Patberg 7. Gulbe already with 9 reb; Holmes 5. Holmes 2 fouls. Defensively, we've held Belmont to 24% shooting and they're 0-13 on 3s. One Belmont player with 3 fouls; 2 with 2 each. Hoosiers shooting 50% FG but just 1-5 on 3s and a miserable 5-10 FT. We're moving the ball well with 8 assists on 11 made field goals. LockdownD 1 Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Don't sell Belmont short, they're 0 fer 13 from three. Class of '66 Old Fart and LockdownD 2 Quote

I'm on the ESPN box score and they're prone to giving walk-ons and players injured all year team rebounds and turnovers. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

Todd41 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 For how poor Belmont is shooting, IU should be up more. Quote
LockdownD Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Holmes has 3 fouls. Probably won’t see her until the 4 quarter. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 Holmes picked up her 3rd foul with 4" left in the 3rd. Belmont has 1 player with 4 and 2 with 3. Lead is 45-28 with 3" left in the 3rd. Quote
