Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Worth your while to enjoy watching some good IU basketball on basic BTN as our #10/11 women (16-4) (13-2) host Iowa (14-7) (10-7). Radio Live Stats NOTES The Hoosiers moved up one spot into the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday to No. 10, its first top 10 ranking in school history. Sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes earned another spot on the Big Ten Weekly honor roll on Monday. Her two performances last week against Wisconsin and No. 15 Ohio State. She averaged 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks, 1.0 steals and shot 65.2 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent at the charity stripe. In the win over the Buckeyes on Sunday, Indiana stopped and broke a few records along the way. They defeated Ohio State for the first time since 2010 and the first time in Columbus since 2002. They also recorded a Teri Moren era record 14 Big Ten victories with the win. IU will go for the series sweep of the Hawkeyes for the first time since the 1994 season when it won both meetings that season, on Jan. 21, 1994 and Feb. 20, 1994. The Hoosiers won the first meeting of the season in Iowa City on Feb. 7, 85-72. UP NEXT The regular season finale is set for Saturday as Indiana battles Purdue in the annual Barn Burner Trophy game. Tip is set for 1 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network Plus. triple, mamasa and HoosierAloha 3 Quote
Aaron Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Iowa is pretty good and has been playing well lately. This game is absolutely huge for two reasons. First one is a win by us and a loss by Maryland the next day at Michigan (both of which are certainly possible), will all but certainly win us a share of the Big Ten Title with both us and Maryland having bottom feeders to close. Either way if we win one of our last two games it will be our first top 2 finish in conference since 1983 Big Ten Championship. Second we finally obtained a 3 seed (which is huge) for NCAA Tournament and want to keep that, as being on other side of bracket from 1 seed till Elite 8 is massive. My thought is to keep that 3 seed (especially since we have very last 3 seed right now) we need to make Big Ten Semi Finals in conference tourney by winning next three games. We can be a fringe 2/3 seed if we win that game and play Maryland in Big Ten Tourney Final. If we somehow beat Maryland, we are a lock for a 2 seed with an outside chance at a 1. If we lose one of our last two games, we probably will fall to a 4 seed and need to get back to Big Ten Tourney Final just to make it back to a 3 seed. Don't see anyway we fall below a 4 seed unless we lose our next three games before NCAA Tourney. Quote

HoosierAloha Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Dumb fouls but solid play to start. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 End of the 1st and Hoosiers lead 17-15. Holmes with 6 pts.; Berger 4. C-H picked up 2 fouls in the first 2:30 and was replaced by Keyanna Warthen who scored 3 pts., grabbed a rebound and had an assist off the bench. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Jeez, apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Their coach is basically Fran in a pink pullover. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 What's with the super bombs at the end of the half? Iowa hits one from 30+ ft at the buzzer and IU is down at half. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 Halftime with Iowa leading 43-38 after hitting 11-13 FG in the quarter. Iowa's star Caitlin Clark has 19 pts. Points: Berger 12; Holmes 10; Patberg 7 Reb: Holmes 4; Gulbe 3 Assists: Patberg 4 Moren put C-H back in to start the 2nd Q and she avoided picking up foul #3. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
Aaron Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Absolutely ridiculously defense that half. Iowa hit some crazy shots but I have not seen IU defend that badly this year. We are in a track meet today which is not the style we want at all and need to get the game slowed down if we want to win. Moren is good at halftime adjustments and she better make some on D or this will not end well. Iowa is not defending well either but this is exactly the game they want and not the game IU wants. LIHoosier Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Strong end to the 3rd quarter, IU leads 65-59 Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
Aaron Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 That pace was much more to IU's liking and both teams stop hitting everything they threw up. Good end to quarter and have a bit of space. Now just need to close this out against a tough Iowa team who is kind of a clone of their Men's Team in every way in coach and style. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 3, 2021 Author Posted March 3, 2021 I should have stepped away sooner. I'm checking out so I can watch C. J. Gunn and Tayshawn Comer. GO HOOSIERS. Quote
Aaron Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Lead up to 9. Clark keeping Iowa barely in there but Holmes is eating Iowa up in the post this quarter. Very similar to game in Iowa City. Now Finish. Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Iowa hot from 3. 10 pt lead down to 4 with 3 minutes left. Quote
Aaron Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Clark just fouled out! Lead down to 4 but she is only reason this game is close. Time to close it out. Quote
LIHoosier Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Holmes just out-womaned the entire Iowa team to wriggle away for a layup. Aaron 1 Quote
