Bracketology and Team Resumes

Teams net number has nothing to do with seed line.   Just used as a sorting tool.   Drink

Yeah, its a sorting tool.  I think if we finished with 2 home wins we were a 3.  I think even with a Michigan win we are a 5 now.  B1G tourney could maybe get us back to a 4 if we grab a couple.  Either way we have to play better or it doesn't matter what seed we are.

That's if the committee puts any weight on the conference tourney.

Could have won those 2 and still been a 4. IU doesn’t play in a vacuum.  Other teams results matter also.     Even though I had them as the last 3 seed going into the game doesn’t mean they were.   IU’s resume was always closer to the 4 range than it was the 3.  meaning as the last 3 for me they were closer to the last 4 seeded team then they were the other teams on the 3 line.  I had no problem with other people having them on the 4 line before yesterday.

History tells you very little on late Friday games and all of Saturday and Sunday games.

I feel like the committee has said in the past they don't really care much about conference tourney games. Maybe I just made that up in my mind. I think the Big Ten should move the B1G tourney to early December.

They never come out and say it but their actions tell you that any game late Friday-Sunday doesn’t impact seeding.   Sparty won the BG tourney one year and they clearly should have moved to the 1 line but they ended up a 2 seed.    Last year Tennessee ran through the SEC tourney and still ended up a 3 seed although they probably should have been a 2.   Bracketologist basically have their bracket set on Friday.   I do feel conference tourney games Tuesday- early Friday matter but after that not so much

I'm definitely gonna need to learn this bracketology stuff.

Where would you rank yourself among other bracketologist? Better than Lunardi? Andy Bottoms?

I’m a little surprised by 10 spot fall but. It shocked.   IU benefited from this exact same thing earlier at Illinois.   Illinois dropped 10 and IU gained 10.     People freak out about the NET way too much.   What’s inside your team sheets matters way more than your NET number.    Example Florida Atlantic is 18 in the NET.  When they compare their resume with other teams around that number they will see they are closer to the 8-10 range even though they have a top 18 NET.

The IU/Illinois game was quite a bit earlier in the year though.  A quad 2 loss dropping you 10 spots in the 30th game is pretty ridiculous IMO.

I don’t have the time to dive into it with the placing teams in the right regions and stuff so I just do straight picking the teams.  A lot more goes into then what I do so until I retire I gave them bare minimum.   I don’t really pay attention to where I stand with others I just do it for fun and put it on this board for people to see

Have to say that dropping ten spots as a result of the 30th game in the season says all I need to know about NET rankings.

Every game matters the committee says it every year and people just ignore it.   I say it all the time a game in November means just as much as a game on the last day of February

OF COURSE every game matters.  But obviously when you've played 15 games, one game represents 1/15th of your resume.  In game 30, that's 1/30th of your resume.

Just my opinion, but the committee saying that NET is a 'sorting tool' is just kind of a cop out to say it's rankings shouldn't really be taken seriously.

It must be March because  people are  getting bent out of shape over the NET.    A tradition unlike any other.  Lol

Bad measures are bad measures.  I know that it a drop of ten in NET won't mean that much in terms of seeding.  The loss yesterday is at most a one seed line drop.

RPI wasn't good, but it was at least transparent.  NET isn't.

I think that is the biggest problem with the NET. The NCAA is SUPER SECRET about it.

I agree people take the rankings of the net too seriously.    It’s one thing if it was intended to produce and number 1-68 and by their ranking alone that’s the order of the field.  That’s what it seems like some of you people want.   Me on the other hand I don’t take the number seriously and use it as it’s intended to be used as a sorting tool.  I could care less if the net has Houston 1 in the NET and Kansas at 6 even though I feel Kansas is better.   I will compare the teams and if I feel committee has Kansas ahead of Houston then I will make the change.   I could care less what NET is next to the team.     If it was me personally Kansas would be my #1 overall team despite them being 6th in the NET and by the way 7th in the beloved KenPom 1 spot ahead of St Marys

Straight forward question:  what does it mean to say that it's a sorting tool?
