A little tidbit you guys might be interested in. My cousin's husband was a runner up for Mr. Basketball back in the day and played for a B1G school. He currently coaches in the Indy area and does individual workouts as well as camps during the summer. I asked him about Brown last year and he said he knew him pretty well and had worked him out on multiple occasions prior to him leaving for Blackford. He had nothing but good things to say and that Brown was the hardest working kid at that age that he had ever seen. Specifically, he talked about how they'd bring Brown in and put him through an intensive workout for 2-3 hours at which point Brown would pack up and head off to his next trainer for the day.

I haven't seen him play so I can't really speak on the reason for his defensive liabilities, but based on the description I received I would say he'll bust his rear end developing that part of his game the second a college coach tells him it's an area of concern in his recruitment.

You are very spot on!  If you had an opportunity to view this kid’s routine and work ethic outside games and his overall disposition off the court I think you’d be even higher in him.  Head and shoulders above anything I’ve ever seen from a perspective or intestinal fortitude and determination.

Thank YOU.  I was a little surprised with Burris because they appeared to have 3 quality varsity caliber players...especially number 5.  They should be much better than their record.

They may have played harder last night than usual with it being their senior night, but they did have a couple decent players and some shooters. I run in that gym at different times of the day and number 5 and number 23 (their two senior captains) are in that gym every morning and most evenings in the off-season.  A friend of mine said #23 broke his leg his freshman year and was never as good as people expected, but he and #5 are gym rats for sure.

A little story going around about his shooting. Coach Hoover came in one morning as Brown was getting up some pre-class shots. One drill had him shoot 100 3's from different 10 spots behind the arc. As Hoover tells it...kid made 97 of them. SMH as in different contexts. Unbelief or disbelief!

This is true and he’s regularly high 80’s on the low end and 90’s on good days

Brian Snow said that he has tried several times to get them to play in the Forum Tipoff game he puts on at Southport each year and Hoover has no interest in playing in it. I also know that several big schools have tried to play them and Hoover won't return phone calls. They like playing the sisters of the poor and have no interest in seeing Brown play against someone good IMO

The AD schedules and as another commenter pointed out a little ways down the schedules ( particularly for non conference ) are set a couple years out and require contracts ...the current Blackford schedule was set when they were coming off two zero win seasons back to back.  Hoover and the AD will get the kid showcased.  I still don’t think the competition is as bad as it’s made out.  Blackford is reclassified to 2A next year and members of their conference have won 2 of the last 3 2A state titles.  He is double teamed all game in all but three games I can recall this year and it’s somewhat normal to commit two defenders and leave a third to help on penetration.  I can count his open 3 point shots this season on a single hand.  I don’t care the level of competition when you have two or three guys on you and still shoot 40 from 3 50 from 2 and 95 from the line that’s worth following.

You just made my point for me. You’ve seen him 20 times against competition that scouts/insiders think is worthless to even evaluate him in. Insiders are right more often than not. Using one outlier to prove your narrative? I guess we’ll all start thinking every top 150 player we get is going to turn into an All American like Oladipo.

I don’t blame you for what you’re saying because I made literally the same arguments when my buddies were begging me to go watch Jordy in high school.  A couple of my best friends from high school roomed or lived with his brother and they were super fans and so naturally I thought their impressions were exaggerated and I argued measureables all day ( too short, not athletic, won’t be able to do it against d1guards with size, etc).  You’re avoiding the fact you aren’t observing this kid in person and thus missing a lot of the intangibles that make him different.  I ended up eating my words on Jordy and I have kept my with my friends who attended all his games and they like Luke as a sophomore better than Jordy as a junior at every level of the game.  You said you’d be impressed with 38% 3 point shooting if it was over three people.  Stream all his games and I challenge you to find me 6 3 point shots out of the over 200 taken this year where he gets an open set shot from a pass.  Literally all his 3’s come from self creation, against multiple defenders, or from 30 feet AND farther.  Under the circumstances the 38 is incredibly impressive.  The Forrest through the trees is not seeing that we can’t get 2 or 3 5 star kids or one and done kids every year.  We aren’t duke ...we aren’t Kentucky ....we need to adapt.  We need kids ranked 100-200 they busted their @$$ to get there and will be 4 year players.  Build a team of big men and guards who fit the luke brown mold and then supplement that by stealing the number one kid from each class within the state they will stay one year or two years and provide your athleticism.  You want to keep repeating the same problem we have had since our loss to Maryland at the start of the century.

It showed...those two were Good enough to win games alone and they had a great spot up shooter ( looked like a younger kid) and a taller/longer player who moved well and shot horribly high racing free throws.  I used to run and lift at ball also in the bsu days !

Once we move into sectional play, does the IHSAA permit games to continue to be streamed or do all the games fall completely under their control?

Game stream for Blackford vs Anderson Prep

I think they told our bsn that they could NOT broadcast but I’ll confirm that tonight

Blackford wrapped up its season with a 92 - 54 pounding of Anderson Prep.  Blackford started 5 seniors and Brown didn't enter the game until midway through the 1st Q and was scoreless in the 1st; he scored 10 in the 2nd; scoreless in the 3rd and 11 in the 4th to finish with 21 points.  He only took 10 shots from the field and Stroble was Blackford's leading scorer with 35 points.  I think he's a junior and will be back next year.  I had Brown with 6-10 FG; 1-5 on 3's; 8-10 FT.  I also had him with 10 assists many of which were to Stroble.  NOTE:  Blackford Athletics credited Brown with 22 points

Did they know they would have an easy time with this game and preserve Brown/let others get theirs? I realize letting the Sr's get a lot of run was in mind but even so?

Yes they did. Brown could’ve scored as many points as he wanted if he played the whole game.
