IU Men's Soccer News and Notes

Recommended Posts

It's October which for IU soccer is winning time. I said all along I knew they would turn it around as they always do. However, they need to stop with these slow starts and leaving it to that.

Good news is Big Ten is elite this year so a big October this time will likely make you an NCAA host. Already these last two games moved IU's RPI up about 100 spots from about 135 to 35. With every game but one against a top-30 RPI team now in conference that number will be well into top-16 with another big month.

Hoosiers should praise the lord that the conference went from maybe its worst year ever in 2023 with them being only bid to maybe best it has ever been in 2024 and could well get 5-6 bids.

A day late and a dollar short as they say but I wasn't able to follow along last night.  A very critical win and they need to maintain that same intensity and focus going forward.  And in a very real sense we pretty fortunate IMO as Wisky fired off 15 shots, 8 on goal and had 12 corners.  Hoosiers only 5 total shots but 4 were on goal and we did make 3 of them count.  Also just 3 corners for IUMS.  Oduro and McDonald both picked up yellow cards.

Goal #1 by Oduro

Game winner from Oduro scored just 9 seconds after Wisky had tied it at 2-2.

Sigh.  Another tie so our season record is now 3-3-5 and conference record 2-1-2.   If we're going to have an October surge it has to start next Tuesday hosting Kentucky followed by hosting Penn State on Friday.  Tonight we had 21 shots; 5 on goal; 5 corners.  Washington finished with 12-6-4.   Sarver picked up a yellow card in the second half and the team assessed one for time wasting.
