Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Lady Hoosiers (11-12) (4-6) face the Feral Felines from Northwestern (9-14) (2-7). Game to be televised on the basic BTN channel. Live Stats Radio The Hoosiers are playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, which is currently the sixth in Division I. They have faced six ranked opponents this season, including four of their first seven games against ranked teams of which they met three of those on the road. It's the second-hardest schedule in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State who is third. PENN PUTS UP POINTS Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn has found an offensive spark as she has posted double figures in four of the last five games. During that stretch, she's shooting 52.9 percent from the 3-point line, 50 percent from the floor and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. She has posted nine games in double digits this season and is averaging 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in her freshman season. She ranks fifth in points per game amongst all Big Ten freshmen, third in steals (1.1), sixth in rebounding and seventh in assists (2.2) STEALING ANOTHER RECORD Senior guard Tyra Buss set her fourth school record on Jan. 27 as she picked up three steals on her way to the all-time steals record. She surpassed Kim Roberson's (2006-09) 259 steals and now has record 261 career swipes. MORE RECORDS TO BREAK With records set in points scored, free throws made, free throws attempted, and steals, Buss will set her sights on the assist records at Indiana. Currently, Buss ranks second in assists (508) behind Tisha Hill's 533 career dishes. Buss is also registering on the all-time 3-pointers made list, coming in tied for fifth (172). CAHILL MAKES HER MARK Senior Amanda Cahill set for another career milestone against Wisconsin on Jan. 24, as she grabbed her 1,000th rebound. She became the third player to record 1,000 rebounds along with Denise Jackson (1,273) and Whitney Thomas (1,090) to reach the career milestone. She's just the second-ever player to record over 1,600 points and 1,000 rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in scoring (1,653), third all-time in rebounds (1,009), third in all-time double-doubles (37) and seventh in blocks (108). KYM'S IMPROVEMENT Junior forward Kym Royster's play this season is one of the best improvements of any player in the Big Ten. The Newark, Ohio native is averaging 10.7 points per contest and has scored in double figures in 13 games this season including back-to-back games against Purdue and Michigan. Her +6.6 points per game this season is one of the best improvements in the Big Ten, ranking fourth among all returning players. She's also adding +3.7 rebounds from a season ago, averaging the team's second-best mark in 6.3 boards per game. BUSS SETS SCORING RECORD Senior guard Tyra Buss set another career milestone on Jan. 20 at Michigan State when she became the first Indiana Women's Basketball player to score 2,000 points. Buss is one of six players (men's or women's) at Indiana to score 2,000 points and has now recorded 2,059 points. Buss broke the record for points scored on Jan. 3 at Penn State. She eclipsed former record holder Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in 1983-84 with her game-high 27 points against the Lady Lions. Currently, Buss is eighth among all active scorers in the nation. mamasa Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 It really makes me sad to think of the Cahill/Buss tandem coming to an end. 2 incredibly talented and classy ladies! IUBBFan1970 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Strong out of the gate for our ladies and at the end of 1, they lead 20-8. Buss with 7; Royster 6. Yeaney and Cahill 2 reb. each. Royster did pick up 2 fouls as did Marchese in only 3 min. of action. Hitting 53% from the floor to only 25% for NU. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Halftime and IU leads 35-29 as NU upped ifs FG% to 54.5% and our ladies slipped to 48%. Buss with 16; Royster and Penn with 6 each; Cahill 5. Cahill with 3 reb., and 3 others with 2 each. Royster and Marchese each with 3 fouls. mamasa 1 Quote
Hoosierfan31 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Has anyone ever noticed that most of the charges buss draws her feet are moving and she is out of position? Not complaining but those are blocking calls against any other player. I don't think we are playing that well compared to the last few games but we are holding on to a decent leadSent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Hoosierfan31 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Still waiting for a more comfortable lead!Sent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Hoosierfan31 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Now we look like we are in a rhythm.Sent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote
JSHoosier Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Buss knew that last 3 was off the moment it left her hand, the first thing she did was chase the board. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Penn has a solid jumper. I'm interested to see if these frosh can develop over the next few years. There is talent there. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mamasa and IUsafety 2 Quote
JSHoosier Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 NW has themselves a good freshman, we haven't been able to stop Pulliam's pullup. This is where we need Buss to step up and take over. Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Oh, good grief! Buss turns it over and NU buries a 3 to tie it up with 12 sec. left. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 And Buss dribbles the ball off her own foot. NU ball with 3.6 sec. left and tied at 69. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 This team is very comparable to FCTC teams. A chance to ice the game with a solid possession and score yet we turn it over and give up a three. Big lead and the other team claws back. An opponent is going off and nobody steps up to stop her. Too much talent to be this bad. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Iugradman, ALASKA HOOSIER, Class of '66 Old Fart and 1 other 4 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Headed to OT (insert expletive) because of our own bad play. Royster and Marchese both with 4 fouls. We're being out-rebounded and out-shot. Buss with 27 pts., but those last 2 TO's were killers for us. HoosierAloha 1 Quote
Hoosierfan31 Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I spoke too soon about us being in rhythm..we got realllly lucky that was called a travel..looked like a jump stop to me honestly. 5 more minutes!Sent from my SM-G920V using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Well, the ladies managed to pull it out 78-73. Buss with 31 pts; Royster and Cahill each with 17. Penn and Cahill each with 6 reb.; Yeaney with 5. 43% from the field; 26% on 3's. NU shot 53% and 41% respectively. IU out-rebounded 34-29 by NU. But it's a win. JSHoosier Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Buss was bad down the stretch. 2 straight turnovers to close out regulation, and on a layup "attempt" in OT she got really lucky her teammate was there to clean it up because Buss wasn't even looking at the rim and got it blocked.
