TOM CREAN FIRED

lol   At the end of the short vid Cuban clearly says "No. I don't want to buy out Tom Crean. I want to extend him not buy him out. So, hopefully he'll be around for a long time."

I struggle to understand why some of you would suggest that Cuban is BSing about extending CTC while at the same time he is donating millions to the university.

You can't really use someone's comments from over a year ago to prove how they feel now. A lot has changed in the program since then. $5 million isn't very much when you're worth over $3 billion, plus donors don't usually donate money just out of the goodness of their hearts. They get something out of it too.

I'll be shocked if we win any of those road games.

The team is lucky to not be 3-7 right now. Penn state hgave the game away twice last night. I dont see anymore than two more wins from here on it. Highly unlikely we win any road games

Other side of that is they could of been 7-3 ( Nebraska and @maryland were both winnable games) being lucky is part of college basketball
I would argue even though they lost @maryland was one of the better games this team has played

Is Mark Cuban really that involved with the program? I know he gave some $$ for AH renovations but do you really hear him talk much about IU basketball like he is a huge fan? Do you think if this was HIS team Tom Crean would still be the coach?

Cuban probably would've fired him after he watched how shell shocked we looked against Cuse's zone. There's 0 chance Crean would still be the coach if he was in charge.

Not a chance he would allow Crean to continue to coach.... Unless he started to embrace tanking.

I think Cuban really likes Crean, especially after all the praise Yogi is giving CTC right now while on the Mavs. However, I'm sure Cuban is aware of the situation of the fans getting testy with Crean. I'm not quite sure he pays that much attention to our games due to his many business and of course the Mavs, which will always come first.

I think Cuban might be a box score fan of IU, right now at least.

I didn't realize the last 4 of 5 games are on the road. No way this team makes the tournament.

I started talking about this back in November. How we needed to make hay early with the back half of the conference schedule being so tough. Now the only game Im confident we win is Michigan at home

On Shark Tank a contestant invited Cuban to a Notre Dame tailgate. Cuban responded that he was an IU fan.

He's not shy about his fandom. Heck, he made his billions off his IU fandom. Whether Crean would be his coach is pure speculation though.

FIRE HIM! This is embarrassing

Good point. I know many thought last years turn around was a sign of good things to come. This years struggles show that was not the case.

I also am not that dependent on guys who do not watch our games regularly to make a decision on whether Crean is the right coach. These guys may know basketball but they are not there watching us repeat the same mistakes game after game. They are not watching us turn the ball over at such a high rate. They look at last nights win and think "wow gritty performance without JBj, OG and Colin" but they don't look at PSUs roster to see they have little to fear. They don't endure a close game loss and think back to the numerous times that Crean pulled our hottest player because it was his preplanned time to come out. They don't pay close enough attention to see there is a pattern and even though we may reach a top 5 ranking during the season we cannot finish past the sweet sixteen.

Cuban does not have the time or interest to follow us that closely. I doubt he sees more than a couple of games a year.

Someone will probably suggest Glass watches closely and has not made a change. If we do not advance past the sweet sixteen before he extends Crean then I will change my mind on him (Glass). I think he had one realistic time to make a change and I think he was very close (year before Bryant).

How do you know he is a good man? The high school coaches in indiana can't stand him. I think most men are good men so I'm not giving him a trophy for that.

I'm not sure you have any trophies to give. Maybe go look up what the families of players have to say about him.

Everyone needs to remind themselves as they rip Crean that he is a good man who has done a lot for the program. He's taken us as far as we can go, and some may say it took too long, but no one (of character and quality) wanted to take on the project of rebuilding a blue blood with a rabid fanbase except Crean. I predict most will look back positively on the Crean years once we have some separation and additional success as a program.

Agree. If we don't bounce back in a big way this year, which will be difficult given our schedule, then Glass needs to consider making that change this year. Another year of this, heck even a poor finish down the stretch, and the crowd will turn fully against him.

We saw some of this a couple of years ago and when the fans don't think their opinion is being considered the boos will become louder. Crean does not deserve that which makes me think that we make a change this year - unless we make a big run down the stretch.

I've heard a couple different stories about some players absolutely despising him. These were players who didn't transfer either

You can expect a half empty assembly hall if fred keeps his boy on next year. There were no signs last night that this team is turning anything around anytime soon. Wisconsin will carve the defense apart like a turkey.

I think Cuban would be singing a different tune, at least privately, about Crean if he followed the team like we do. He knows enough about basketball that he would pick up on Crean's shortcomings if he watched enough games. Like you said, that's just not going to happen for a guy like Cuban. He has his own basketball team to worry about as well as his other business ventures.

I remember Crean getting a fair amount of boos during the season you're talking about. If Crean didn't end up getting Bryant and Max after that year he might've been cut loose.

Because they see through his charade. When Indiana High School coaches don't like the man or think he is a good coach, you know there's a problem. And it needs to be extinguished

The "he's a great man" storyline seems like another excuse for his subpar coaching to me. "So what if he's not a very good coach, he's a great man and a great person to represent our program so we should keep him." I dont know the man personally so I can't judge his character, but there are enough stories out there to make me wonder how true the "he's a great person" angle really is.

It's an interesting narrative that you've crafted. It seems he's burned bridges due to his aggressive personality and over recruiting, which has lost the trust of the in-state coaches.

Why did Yogi and Cody and JBJ want to play for him?
