IU at Illinois Game Thread (1/24 - 9pm - BTN)
DChoosier replied to KB0's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Agreed. It is good to see that a player does not get yanked after two good plays in a row. That was one of the many things that drove me nuts with Crean. A few games ago I remember thinking how refreshing it was that Archie kept a lineup on the floor that was rolling for an extended time. What a concept!! -

I agree with you about Crean but....... The original statement had nothing to do with Crean but rather stated that NO OTHER coach would have a better record at this point. It was that statement that I disagreed with...had nothing to do with Crean. -

You comparing this years Wiscy team to those of the past few years....Not even in the same stratosphere. -

I am pro-Archie but I find it hard to believe that no other coach could have survived the gauntlet of the worst Wiscy team in decades, a bad UI team, Indiana State and IUPIUFWABC123 or whatever the hell that Fort Wayne school is called. -

To those that have come to the conclusion that a one and done Romeo is not that important....... This program needs something real positive to happen NOW. I do not care if he is gone after one year...we need a talent injection to get this train rolling or we are looking at another 2-3 years of struggling. I have been a huge fan for decades but this is getting old. -

We have enough talent to beat this crappy UI team. -

Not really unreal. When he was the one dribbling down the court I had a sick feeling that it would not end well. -

Should have been a win but part of me "is sick" while the other part knows that, sadly, it is not a big deal as our upside is the NIT. -

That's a big request. He has only been playing D1 basketball since 2009. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
Romeo v Phinisee - Hypothetical debate

Why pick one when the current blue bloods are loading up year after year? We need both the top in-state PG and SG when they are this talented. -
Soapbox Time. Students, get your butts to the games!

Thanks for passing along the article. Aside from "doing it all", for the team, Morgan sounds like a great kid. -
In 24 years we have made it past the Sweet Sixteen (ie Elite 8 or better) ONE time. ONE time in 24 years...... You can call some of the seasons rebuilds or whatever but, when you consider the success we had in the past, the last 24 years have been very mediocre. (ie longer than the entire lifetime of the current students). I do not like it but can see why the student excitement level might have dimmed from what I experienced when I went to IU in the "good ol days" of IU hoops.

Thats the issue. We do not have any consistent guards (although Robert has been getting better) With 4 or 5 minutes to go we could have put the game to bed and Green made mistake after mistake....Terrible bounce pass to McSwain, forcing shots etc. Shoring up the backcourt next year by getting both RP and Romeo would be huge.

If, if ,if ...reminds me of every year of IU football.

This just went from bad to worse. Hopefully Morgans injury is not serious but he seemed to be in a lot of pain. -

Green would be really good if he was half as good as he thinks he is. -

Archie dislikes him so much that he played him more minutes than everyone except Morgan :( -
This year he was also walking in the dreaded "boot".

Thanks for the read. I enjoyed it but to be honest a lot of the article is typical "coach-speak". I'm not qualified to be a coach but would probably have said 90% of what he said because protecting the borders, getting the right kind of kid, the fit is important, etc., etc., is basically interviewing 101. I do not mean this to be a negative comment but rather an acknowledgment that a lot of what CAM said was just basic comments that 95% of coaches make.
-
I do not see many "on the ledge comments" but rather statements along the lines that the season so far is disappointing. Do you have a different take? Do you think the season has exceeded expectations? I do not see how that could be possible but maybe you do think everything has been great so far.
-
Aside from the won-lost predictions there were a lot of comments about improved fundamentals, good defense, half time adjustments, etc but now the narrative seems to be "what do you expect from these rotten kids". i hope CAM works out, and it is too early to judge, but he certainly does not seem to have the team fully behind him. As I have said before the lack of consistent effort is among the most disturbing things going on. This is not a "CAM was a mistake" post but it does seem appropriate to at least say if the season so far has been a pleasant surprise or a bit of a disappointment. Right now I would have to go with disappointment....and not just because of the W-L record.

How many times did Dakich properly deride Crean and his teams for lack of ball movement, failure to feed the post, lack of "help defense", careless turnovers etc. I find it very hard to believe that Dakich truly thinks Crean should have been retained.
