  1. Duke has another year like this one, no freaking way. Coaches get old and may serve beyond their time. Gotta get rid of them sometime.
  2. He blew the bridge to smithereens. I am done with him. I am now leaning toward a true IU guy, regardless of his perceived ability or past performance. Keep in the family. F them.
  3. Please. Archie stunk up the joint. We're better off with a random kid from the hyper coaching the team.
  4. look guys, the only one who matters regarding a "done deal" is Brad Stevens. He is in total control. He could have told Donolson that the deal was done, and when he went to quit, things changed. They often do. So it could be entirely true that we had a "done deal" and that Stevens backed out after it was done. IF that happened, the only credibility loss is on Stevens. And for those that asked, you can substitute Bill D if he also indicated the deal was done. Those of us old enough to remember the hapless Chicago Bears many years ago (1999). They had "hired" Dave McGinnis from the AZ Cardinals. It was announced, press conference scheduled, and they even changed his voice message. And then it didn't happen -- the guy walked at the last minute over a salary dispute. So these things happen -- candidates flake out sometimes.
  5. Nobody can take away IU history. Does it matter to today’s kids? Not all, but some. It’s just a matter of getting the right coach who has a vision and can execute that vision. A guy who knows his strengths and weaknesses and accounts for them. And anyone who thinks the Duke or UNC job will be better is fooling themselves. Following a legend is almost impossible. Wait and see.
  6. Let’s do Fife, with Lewis and Hulls. Cant be any worse than Archie. And at least they’ll want to be here.
  7. Look the only one who lost credibility is Stevens. He said yes and then said no. In other words, he lied. Passing information you believe to be true, which turns out not to come to fruition is not loosing credibility.
  8. Let’s just move on the the guy from North Texas. He did something Archie couldn’t do in 8 tries. :)
  9. If you told your coworkers it was definitely Brad based on what you heard on the interweb, and they believed you, then you have low IQ coworkers. Things change. And in business things change all the time. Nobody looses credibility when things change.
  10. It’s not misleading if BS pulls out at the last minute.
  11. Why does someone lose credibility when a fluid situation changes? That’s ridiculous. Nothing is final until it’s final. The insiders where right. Their info was right. Stevens changed his mind at the last minute. BFD. Move the drill.
  12. I think there are several coaches it would be worth playing for a year to get into the first round.
  13. That’s a “denial.” He’s looking down a lot — that means something.
  14. This is Stevens chance. If he wants the job it’s time. If not, it may not become available to him for a while. But he’s got to make the move now. Waiting will basically mean we lose another year as transfers and recruits will go elsewhere.
  15. When is their game? :)
  16. Plus you need really long arms to reach out to these fellas. Now a phone call, that could be a different story. :)
  17. We didn’t get anywhere by pulling him either.
  18. Lander was a senior in HS as a freshman. When playing, he made freshman mistakes. The problem with Archie, rather than letting him play thru those mistake, he was pulled at the first sign of trouble. Maybe it’s different if we had a cupcake non-conference schedule to work with. You need to take the bad with the good when playing freshman.
  19. I think Stevens is your "Joe Maddon" hire. The Cubs had just hired Rick Renteria a year prior. Joe Maddon came available and Renteria was gone. If we end up with an old guy, or an up and comer, Stevens will be a possiblity when he decides the time is right. If we hire a Beard et. al. and they are hugely successful, then maybe not.
  20. Any good AD (or GM in the pros) will always have a short list of coaches they would upgrad to. Cause you never know what is going to happen -- health issues, retirements, leave for other jobs, etc. etc.
  21. It was a top job with a low level AD. New AD - looks like things have changed.
  22. I think this has a lot to do with it. These kids aren't stupid. They have played basketball since they could walk. Most come from successful high school programs, not to mention AAU teams. They know a little bit about basketball. Archie comes in with his system, doesn't adapt and adjust, and kida has an offputting personnality (maybe), then thow in bad losses and crappy records it's a recepie for disaster.
  23. Listen to the interview with Hartman if you haven't. He tells how Buckley worked with him, no holds barred. He went from not shooting a three as a freshman to being a top pct. as a soph. So while they have to have some talent to work with, if they just keep repeating the same techinical errors 10,000 times, they don't get better. Coaches (who know what they are doing) can be an objective observer and tweak what needs tweaking. That whole conversation about shooting was interesting.
  24. Right. He values free throws, and we can't shoot free thows. Either teach them yourself, you get someone on staff to do it. It's just an epic failure on Archie's point and should cost him his job.
