Durham was a sr. He was gone anyway. Granted, Scott hasn't given them his list, but he told them something day on in anticipation of making the big splash that didn't happen.

Actually, the beauty of Phil is he doesn't "know" much about it -- he knew who to hire. His buddy Tex Winter was the mastermind. Phil's genius is the psychology.

I think the fact that the guys entered the transfer portal this week is evidence that the coaching search has turned. Scott obviously told them something to make them sit tight, but now with the Matta rumors, and possible Woodson, who knows, the kids have gotten antsy.

So just spitballing, what if a guy like Woodson could get TJD to stay. He would definitely have the clout to say "kid, you're not quite ready for the NBA, but give me a year and I'll make you a first rounder."

Like it or not a University’s primary mission is to graduate students with degrees. The vast majority of athletes get degrees and regular jobs when they are done. Parents also want their kids to get degrees — it’s part of the recruiting process. A head coach without a degree is a bad look.

we have woeful out of state recruiting because we suck. Gotta win first. Then the recruits will line up.

It would be nice to have at least a "we are looking at many candidates, some of which are still dancing. With respect to their programs, we won't entertain discussion with those candidates until their "one shining moment" is complete."

It is the uncertainly and Amman has got to do what's best for his career. Scott needs to quell the uncertainty, at least privately with the team -- these are the candidates and here is the schedule for a decision. Then they can tweet it all to us. :)

That's not how it works. These IU donors in most cases earned their money and are smart. They know about risk, sure things, etc. I am sure the discussion included the comment "Ok Scott, you say you got Stevens, but what if you don't? What if he's playing you? What's plan B?"

Agreed. The SJWs will be out in full force. It's baggage we probably don't need. Unfortunate because he is a good coach.

Look other than the two unemployed dudes the coaches of interest are in the tourney. No respectful coach would talk about a job until they are done. A few finished last night. A few may finish tonight. And a few may go on a bit longer. So it could take some time. In the mean time I think Scott is all over these boards saying “watch this” and laughing his arse off.

That's exactly right. Control you conference. If you're in the Big10 hunt every year, you're in the tournament (none of this bubble crap). Then it's a numbers game. Some years you'll exit early. Some years you'll get to the sweet 16 and every so often the final 4.

Fife is taller. But yeah, I'd give Fife the nod due to his previous experience. But I would view them as 1a and 1b, and would like to see them work together, head coach and associate head coach, to restore the program. That's if we decide to go the up and comer route.
