    Kyle Schwarber - Chicago Cubs

Since there's no baseball -- yet -- a Cubs FB page I follow is counting down what it perceives to be the top 20 homers in franchise history. This epic Schwarbomb checked in at No. 9. I remember when it happened. It was a beautiful October evening, so all my windows were open -- and being a Cubs fan for over 40 years and a Schwarber fan, not to mention it being playoff baseball against the hated Redbirds, I jumped off my couch and gave a big yell (I wondered if my neighbors thought something was wrong!). Dennis Eckersley: "Mercy! What in the world ..."

It's pretty amazing when you consider we've been to only 3 bowls in the last 10 years and had only one winning season, yet we've still won more games than Purdue.

Jake Weingarten - Stockrisers.com When it comes to the more gritty prospects in the 2022 class, one name that comes to mind is Georgia native Bruce Thornton. Ranked as high as No. 19, according to Rivals.com, he stands at 6-foot-2 and is rated as a four-star recruit. The Milton product averaged 23.5 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Despite the size, he can do everything on the floor. As far as his recruitment goes, plenty of schools are involved. Most recently adding offers from Indiana’s Archie Miller and Purdue’s Matt Painter, the list goes on and on varying from all conferences. “I have a lot of schools that have offered but to list some, I’ve got Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Miami, and many more,” Thornton said. Another program that hasn’t offered: Kentucky. The Wildcats have a legitimate interest in him, hosting him for an unofficial visit this past season. The last prospect that they landed out of Georgia: Ashton Hagans. Auburn is another program that hosted him for a visit, like many, this past season. Thornton has publicly stated how he likes the program and the coaching staff. I fully expect Thornton not to sleep on June 15th when the contact period begins because as of now, college coaches don’t have the allowance to call recruits, which changes in a few weeks.

    Justin Smith Declares

I saw some mention somewhere (can't remember exactly where) that indicated he might narrow his choices -- whatever they are -- and have some finalists this past week. But I haven't seen anything else backing that up, or advancing that. I don't believe he's tweeted anything since his farewell to the pinstripe pants and the Kelly School of Business.

Do you think that will truly happen? Step outside of your bias of Brunk. Do you see that happening? I don’t. Archie has been consistent on how he has taken TJD off the 5. TJD is not playing 30 minutes at the 5. That just will not happen. Race will play some minutes at the 5 as he did last year. TJD will as well. Brunk will still play around 20 mpg. Possibly more. Glad your son found a path to play. My daughter also started to play later than most of the girls but loves to train and practice. So far she has not enjoyed tournaments and has not done anything to build a NTSA ranking. She plays soccer at a pretty high level currently and that could limit time to play HS tennis but perhaps if she wants to play in college she might be able to fit NTSA tournaments in easier. Thanks for the info. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

We lost 40 minutes between Smith and Davis. Smith was not mainly at the 3. Brunk will play the same level of minutes he played last year with Race gaining at least 10 mpg. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Really nice quote from Thornton. Oftentimes it seems like the responses to offers are pretty canned and blah, blah, blah, but not this one. "Not everybody can just play there. It is an honor. Just really shocked and speechless when I heard IU calling."

Well I highly doubt Brunk and TJD play every second Brunk is in the game but extremes haven’t stopped you so far. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

TJD and Race Thompson played very well together during the last several games and it was never clear who was playing the 5 and who was playing the 4. Those two are interchangeable at those two positions. Brunk can only play the 5.

ScoopmanTV.com on D'Ante (Tae) Davis - So far, 2022 Lawrence Central (IN) shooting guard D’Ante Davis has been a prospect college coaches have kept their eye on. Nebraska, Xavier, Louisville, Butler, and Purdue have offered him a scholarship with Ohio State, Cincinnati, Iowa and Indiana showing interest. Purdue, who offered him yesterday, has been recruiting him hard for a while now and has developed a good relationship with Davis so far. “I’ve been down on an unofficial visit and they have a great coaching staff behind their program,” he said. “They have been recruiting me hard.” Almost all of the programs recruiting him right now have made him a priority in the class of 2022, and they’ve all enjoyed his ability to do a little bit of everything on the floor. “Versatility, athleticism, quick first step and being able to play on both sides of the floor,” he said of what coaches like about his game. “My jumper, the way I get to the rim and my competitiveness.” Davis has utilized the extra time off, due to the pandemic, to improve his overall game. He has spent the majority of his time preparing for the next opportunity he’s able to play in front of coaches. “My ball handling has been fine but I’ve been working on perfecting it,” Davis explained. “Being more crafty and shifty.” On a side note, his father, D'Andre Davis Sr. has been named head coach at Warren Central (IN), and Tae will follow his father from Lawrence Central to Warren Central.

My son plays NAIA and there is very little scholarship funding; team was only in its third year last year (but was doing very well -- think they were 5-1 in the fall season before having the spring season cut off (their spring season is longer and tougher than their fall, but they would have ended up at .500 or so). Anyway, I was an assistant tennis coach for my son's team (and the girl's team as well) for about three years and we had a girl that ended up on full scholarship at Wayne State. Wayne State is a really good D2 girl's tennis program (they were 17-4 last year before their season was cut short and had already qualified for the D2 national tournament) -- she is 33-9 in two seasons primarily playing the #5 spot. Anyway, she was the #7 ranked senior (I believe) in Indiana and somewhere around 450 nationally in her class. One thing to keep in mind is that many of the best players will not play in college -- some even won't play high school. D1 players typically are getting recruited based on their USTA performance, not their high school seasons. USTA rankings seem to be big.....I think players that aren't playing USTA tournaments are really going to get D1 looks. My son was not a USTA player -- he was a kid who really didn't start playing seriously until his sophomore year; he went from the worst kid on the team at the beginning of his freshman year, grew 8 inches and became a varsity player at doubles as a sophomore, #1 doubles players on a team that qualified for regional as a junior, and then was the #1 singles player as a senior. He really wasn't looking to play college tennis as he was looking at going into construction until his senior year when he decided he wanted to go into education. In his case, he contacted the coach at IUSB and set up a time to meet him and practice a little -- coach told him that he couldn't guarantee him anything, but he thought that from what he had seen that he would be able to play there. He's played about half the varsity matches as a freshmen and every match this year. Long story short (too late, I know), is that outside of D1/high D2 scholarship situations, I would say it is best to have the player and/or parents contact coaches and express interest. Doesn't hurt to have coaches advocate, either. Most tennis programs outside of major ones are on very, very limited budgets. Very little given in terms of scholarships and recruiting budgets are very small.

    (2022) PG Bruce Thornton

Yeah — there seems to be some real mutual interest here. If/when we have the season that most of us are expecting, this is a real possibility. We’ve been there from the start with this young man.

If there were any question OK St will appeal the penalties. So they are probably still looking at that August/September timeline we have been discussing over the last year. Not sure where the rest sit, but by that forceful tweet earlier I posted, I am guessing these schools are making the NCAA’s life miserable when being interviewed. I am guessing OK St thought they would get probation or blame it squarely on the coaches. Really no other reason to be forthcoming if you are getting hammered regardless. Would love to see Self's big middle finger to the NCAA actually get him a much harsher penalty.

The people resigned to the punishment are hoping they can keep Self and get a 2 year ban. Others want to leave the NCAA or feel they will get off because nobody was arrested lol. We literally might see a few teams get as close to the death penalty for the first time since SMU. I am guessing they will end with 2-3 year ban and show cause for Self. Especially when on the first case they are saying work with us or you will get pummeled. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Florida judge denies a stay to Zion Williamson and will allow discovery to proceed against him in FL on whether he received improper economic benefits to attend Duke. Expect an immediate appeal to the Third DCA, via a petition for writ of certiorari. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/29255403
