Yep Roach for the win. Man I was really hoping St John’s was gonna pull it off. I know Pitino gets a lot of hate but I like his teams

I think Pitino just gets hate because he’s a grade A ******. Helluva coach though. For those of you that are younger (not necessarily saying you FW) his run at Kentucky was really something. He really was at the forefront of the pace and 3 pointers trend. He also publicly preached the 50% on = 33% on 3s back then. It always makes me laugh that NBA nerds pretend like they discovered something new 20 years after the fact.

I was always glad he left for the NBA because Knight was on the down swing and we really had nothing for them. He was never able to quite capture that magic at Louisville.

I don't think anyone says that Pitino can't coach.  His dislike is about him as a person and him throwing others under the bus for things he knew were going on.

In terms of the 'NBA nerds pretending like they discovered something new'......if it were simple Pitino discovering a new style of basketball that worked before others did, then his NBA run would have been a success.  His 192-220 NBA record says that his style wasn't so far ahead of the curve.  At the college level, he's had a leg up in terms of talent on his team for most of his career.

Another pretty full batch of games this morning/afternoon.

Love this time of year when there are hoops on throughout the day. Enjoy watching while I work.

Ohio vs. Portland @ Myrtle Beach Invitational, 11:30 a.m., ESPNU
FAU vs. Drake @ Charleston Classic, 11:30 a.m., ESPN2
Middle Tennessee vs. South Florida @ Myrtle Beach, 2 p.m. ESPN2
Miami (Fla.) vs. Oklahoma State @ Charleston, 2 p.m. ESPNU
Pittsburgh vs. LSU @ Greenbrier Tip-Off, 2:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network
Wisconsin vs. Central Florida @ Greenbrier, 5 p.m. CBS Sports Network
Bradley vs. Wright State @ Myrtle Beach, 5 p.m., ESPNU
Seton Hall vs. Vanderbilt @ Charleston, 5 p.m., ESPN2
Campbell @ Ohio State, 6 p.m., BTN

P.S. -- only listed early games. Obviously, there are bunch more at night. And only listed the "free TV" games. ESPN+ has a few more throughout the day. There are other morning/afternoon games as well that are not televised or streaming.

Can’t lie, this made me feel better. Watched their game with Miami and they had maybe 4 trigger actions and then everything was just different. Couldn’t figure out what they were doing at all. It’s a cool way to play when you’ve played a bunch of ball together, but they’re gonna have some stretches where they look bad.

Not really. NBA is horribly run league and he joined at a time when the NBA had rules set up against shooting from outside or at least players that did.

His failure in the NBA is almost entirely related to his defensive philosophy though, which is just untenable at the NBA level.

He’s not gods gift to coaching. I wouldn’t particularly emulate his style. But he was way ahead of the curve in implementing the 3 point line successfully. I don’t think Knight gets enough credit either for what he did with Alford in that regard. But as far as a whole team tactic Pitino was one of the first to really adopt it whole sale at a high level.

The pros almost always lag the amateur level in xs and os innovation in basketball. Knight would’ve failed in the NBA too and it would’ve had nothing to do with his tactical and strategic brilliance.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with regard to the future of motion and motion-like offenses. I hope he succeeds there with that style. They’ve got the money. They should give it to him.

I can see no way it works turning the roster over every year or two.
